Description: Come join Music Industry Club and the Environmental Action Group on Saturday, April 13 for our annual music festival Bloomfest! The event will be from 5-9pm on Saturday on University Hall Lawn and in the event of rain will be held in the Maurer Center Schmeltz Atrium. The event will host the bands Freight Street, villagerrr, Stay Outside and Cousin Simple to play live music and gather the community to celebrate Earth Month and sustainability! The event will include tables from several organizations, games, fire pits, food and several raffle items! All proceeds will be donated to the Black Swamp Organization.

Description: BGReel and the Department of Theatre and Film present the Film and Media Fest, a collection of student films and Senior Showcase, a curated collection of films by THFM seniors.

Screenings on the April 5 and 6 in the BTSU Theatre 206. One screening block will take place at 7 p.m. on April 5. The remaining screening blocks will start at noon on April 6. The Awards Ceremony and Senior Showcase will take place on April 7.

A catered reception from 3-4 p.m. on April 7 in BTSU 207, followed by the Senior Showcase from 4-5 p.m. and ending with the Awards Ceremony from 5-6 p.m. in the BTSU theatre.

4. Earn $5 with a snack to participate in research

Fill out the form to participate!

Description: Get paid a /$5 Amazon or Starbucks gift card to taste cookies and bread. To participate, you must be at least 18 years old, have no food allergies and have no issues with your sense of taste and smell. If you qualify, you will be asked to eat a cookie sample and a bread sample. You will then be asked to answer some questions about those foods and other questions. This taste test will happen on April 1-4 in Health and Human Services 133 and should take about 10-12 minutes. You may choose to enter your name if your instructor has offered extra credit for participation and you would like to receive extra credit for participating. Your answers will not be linked to your name. You can also pick a snack after completing the study.

5. Call for proposals for the Better Toledo Series

Description: The Institute for the Study of Culture and Society (ICS) invites you to submit a proposal for a public presentation for Better Toledo—a personal and professional development series to ensure “you will do better in Toledo.”

The presentation will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Toledo Public Library to kick-off Welcoming Week. Welcoming Week is an annual event that brings together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity.

We are looking for an engaged and enthusiastic graduate student or faculty member at BGSU to deliver an interactive talk or workshop on a topic of their choice that speaks to the “Welcoming” theme.

6. FSL Carnival

8. Let’s Talk About Sex, Sexual Health Education and HIV Testing

The Office of Health and Wellness provides this designated time and place to have private conversations with health professional, Danielle VanFleet, HIV Testing Coordinator, about safer sex. Bring your questions and discuss concerns on topics such as disease prevention, sexuality and reproductive health, contraception options, relationships and risk factors for HIV and sexually transmitted infections. 13. Register for Dance Marathon at BGSU

Date and Time: From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 7.

Location: Perry Field House

Dance Marathon 2024

Description: Dance Marathon is a 10-hour event that provides food, service hour opportunities and fun activities for the BGSU community to take part in while raising money for Nationwide Children's Hospital in Toledo, with a separate team that goes out to bike 62 miles for the 62 children admitted to Nationwide Hospitals every minute. Families from the hospital come and interact with participants throughout the event and share their miracle stories throughout the event.

This year's theme is Rodeo, with participants Rounding Up the Miracles. Some different activities that are going to be at the event are a Mechanical Bull, Decorating Mini Cowboy Hats, Ax Throwing Inflatable, 360 Spin Cam, Massage Chairs and Appearances from President Rodgers, SICSIC, Frieda and Freddie Falcon and DJ Alby. There are also many service hour opportunities for participants! Lunch, dinner and snacks will be provided.

14. Service Opportunity (BG SONG Rock The Block)

Location: Volunteer check-in at Trinity United Methodist Church 200 North Summit Street 2. Entrance and parking lot at the back of the church (Volunteers will be assigned houses in surrounding area to work at).

Description: Join BG SONG and the LEAD 2010: Leadership and Service class for the upcoming Rock the Block event taking place on Saturday, April 6! Check-in starts at 9 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church and the event begins at 9:30 a.m. The Rock the Block event will focus on beautification and revitalization of neighborhoods located within Bowling Green, OH. Volunteers will be divided up into groups and assigned to complete homeowners projects.

No experience is required. Volunteer registrants are asked about their previous experience related to the specific tasks to help us assign volunteers. Additionally, you will be asked your t-shirt size (t-shirts will be provided).

After the completion of your project, volunteers are asked to return to Trinity United Methodist Church. There will be food served and you will be entered into a RAFFLE!

16. Total Solar Eclipse Watch Party

Description: The BGSU Total Solar Eclipse Watch Party is a family-friendly event that will include a variety of fun and educational demonstrations, hands-on activities, inflatables and giant board games, music, food trucks and more! (Gates open at noon for BGSU students, faculty and staff.) Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the sky through telescopes on the field.

Free solar eclipse glasses will be provided for all Watch Party attendees. Women and Space on the Eve of the Eclipse

Description: A joint presentation by the Dean’s Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion (DACODI) and the Browne Popular Culture Library.

Celebrate the total solar eclipse with a screening of the film "Woman in Motion" (2019). This documentary chronicles the remarkable journey of Nichelle Nichols, the iconic Lieutenant Uhura from Star Trek and her mission to recruit from underrepresented groups for NASA in the 1970s.

We’ll have popcorn, a range of cosmos-related treats and a display featuring some fascinating Star Trek and NASA items from the Pop Culture Library.

What we're looking to celebrate?: An awesome student who has left a lasting mark during their time here at BGSU!
  • LGBTQ+ Rising Star Award - this will be awarded to a not-yet-graduating undergraduate (1st-3rd year) and/or graduate (before their last year) student who has significantly impacted the Bowling Green State University and/or LGBTQ+ community. The person(s) selected for this award will have influenced their peers, their department (academic and/or employment) and/or the greater university community through their leadership, accomplishments, etc.(e.g., student organizations, fraternity/sorority, athletic team, volunteer/service efforts, etc.). Description: Dr. John Wesley Lowery, Department Chairperson and Graduate Coordinator at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will present the 2024 Saddlemire lecture, titled “In the Shade of Trees We Didn’t Plant: Establishing Student Legal Rights in American Higher Education." While many may recognize the names of the key court cases that helped establish student legal rights in American higher education, the stories of the students and others who fought for those rights, unsuccessfully and successful, are often hidden or forgotten.

Description: Are you excited for the upcoming April 8 total Solar Eclipse? This week the eclipse speakers series continues with:

“These Late Eclipses”: Shakespeare and the Early Modern Sky Presented by Stephannie Gearhart, Chair and Professor, BGSU Dept. of English.

At an exciting and, to many, unsettling time in the history of science, what was an artist like William Shakespeare thinking about the solar system and humans’ place in it? This talk will consider how Shakespeare drew inspiration from the skies and contemporary scientific debates as he created works that continue to speak to us today.

Description: Learn about the high and low lights of almost 2000 years of the history of Western Civilization! This Fall, explore how German Culture has impacted world views. 11. Fall course offering – ASIA 4700 Korean Culture and Language

Description: This course aims to enhance students’ understanding of Korean culture and language by examining key social, historical and cultural events and issues portrayed in Korean popular culture (K-Film, K-pop and K-Drama). Students will also learn to identify characteristics of Korean language on a basic level and enhance communicative ability in the context of Korean culture. The course provides students with skills and knowledge to better understand and evaluate many important issues in contemporary Korea. By doing so, students will learn to reflect critically on various contemporary issues in and around Korea.

Description: BGSU’s annual Teaching and Learning Summit is an opportunity for the BGSU teaching community to spend the day celebrating achievements, reflecting on the past year, sharing best practices for teaching and learning and fostering future collaborations for both inside and outside of the classroom. This year’s Teaching and Learning Summit will take place on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Olscamp Hall. The theme for this year’s Summit is Forward: The Future of Teaching and Learning. Aligning with BGSU’s strategic plan, “Forward,” this year’s Summit will envision what teaching excellence and student success looks like in the university classroom of the future.

4. Classroom/lab software request deadline for Summer/Fall 2024

The deadline for submitting software requests (for classrooms/computer labs/mobile device carts, etc.) for the Summer/Fall 2024 semesters is April 29. This includes cloud-based software, desktop-based software, mobile apps and domain purchases. All software submission requests (including Canvas LTI integrations) are subject to the university’s software procurement review process, which checks that the software meets accessibility, legal and IT security standards with which BGSU must comply. Software not previously approved by the University can take a minimum of 45 days to be routed through the approval process.

To request software installation, please submit a Lab/Classroom Software Install Request form.

Please Note: If you are currently unaware of the location of your class, please still submit your request and note in the Additional Details section that the location is “to be determined”. This will allow ITS to begin working on your request. Once the location is known you can reply to your ticket with that information.

Submissions received after the deadline will be handled in the order received and will not be available for the start of the session/semester.

1. All-College Book Author, Putsata Reang

Description: Putsata Reang is an author and a journalist whose writings have appeared in The New York Times, Politico, The Guardian, Ms and The Seattle Times, among other publications. Born in Cambodia and raised in rural Oregon, surrounded by berry farms where she and her family hustled to earn their middle-class existence.

Reang has lived and worked in more than a dozen countries including, Afghanistan and Thailand. She is an alum of Hedgebrook, Mineral School and Kimmel Harding Nelson residencies. She is a 2019 Jack Straw fellow. In 2005, she received an Alicia Patterson Journalism Fellowship that took her back to Cambodia to report on landless farmers. She currently teaches memoir writing at the University of Washington School of Professional and Continuing Education.

Her latest book, Ma and Me, explores the long legacy of inherited trauma and the crushing weight of cultural and filial duty, in the context of her journey to come out to her family and claim her identity. Her memoir explores the glades of displacement felt by children of refugees and the overlay of emotional exile that comes with being gay.
