FALCON MARCHING BAND DEBUTS NEW UNIFORMS DURING FALCON FAMILY WEEKEND

For the first time in 14 years, the Falcon Marching Band has new uniforms, and the band got to show them off Sept. 9 during Falcon Family Weekend.

The marching band always has been one of the most well-known representatives of Bowling Green State University, but during the festivities for the football home-opener against South Dakota at Doyt Perry Stadium, there was just a little more pep in its step.

“The students were super psyched; they were really, really excited,” said Dr. Michael King, the director of the band. “They love the look of the uniform and the way we were able to get the BGSU peekaboo logo front and center on it.”

The nearly two-year process began with a planning committee in November 2015 and a campaign kickoff soon after, resulting in the brown, orange and white uniforms arriving just days before the first home football game. Stanbury Uniforms, a Missouri-based company with a Warren, Ohio, supplier, produced the uniforms from concept to drop-off.

AMERICAN BRASS QUINTET TO PERFORM, TEACH AS HANSEN ARTISTS

The American Brass Quintet will visit Bowling Green State University Sept. 20-22 to present a free public concert and share their musical and professional wisdom as this year’s artists in residence for the Dorothy E. and DuWayne H. Hansen Musical Arts Series. Their residency concludes with an 8 p.m. concert on Sept. 22 in Kobacker Hall at the Moore Musical Arts Center.

Now in its 50th year, the renowned quintet’s current cast includes a connection to BGSU: Trumpeter Kevin Cobb’s late father, Dr. Thomas Berry Cobb, was a longtime faculty member. In addition, as part of its residency the group will work with students at the Toledo School for the Arts, with whose founder, Martin Porter, Cobb studied trumpet. Porter is a BGSU alumnus and former director of public events for the College of Musical Arts.

TAKE STEPS TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM EQUIFAX HACK

Equifax, one of the three largest credit reporting bureaus, revealed last Thursday that it had been hacked. Personal information from about 143 million customers had been compromised from mid-May to July 2017. The hacked information includes names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and even driver’s license numbers.

Although BGSU’s data was not breached, it is still recommended that everyone check their personal information, especially anyone who recently secured a loan or was involved in other financial transactions. Also check bank and credit card statements and medical bills carefully.

Equifax is currently offering free identification theft protection for free for one year, even if your data was not compromised. Visit the website to check if you were affected and sign up for the service.

It might also be a good idea to consider a credit freeze if you’re worried that your information has been compromised. This feature lets you restrict access to your credit report, which makes it harder for hackers to open up lines of credit in your name.

Go online to learn how to apply for a credit freeze and if any charges apply.
