A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

October was a remarkable month for BGSU!

Academy of Distinguished Alumni
Thanks to the thousands of BGSU alumni and friends who returned to campus for Homecoming! The University hosted dozens of events and activities for the Falcon Family. We inducted four outstanding honorees into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni:
  • Pam Beall '84
  • John Mitchell '78
  • Antonio Daniels '97
  • Peter Englehart '75

Jim Obergefell
Jim Obergefell, a former graduate student in the College Student Personnel program, returned to campus October 7 to share his story of activism and love. Obergefell v. Hodges is the landmark Supreme Court case that recognized same-sex marriages nationwide.

Dr. Kurt Panter, associate professor of geology, and senior Jenna Reindel, along with a small team will travel to Antarctica to study remote volcanoes. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the researchers will spend five weeks learning about the changing dynamics of the Antarctic ice sheet.

The University Arts program hosted the inaugural Orchard Guitar Festival on October 3. Through the generous support of Tom '75 and Martha '73 Orchard, BGSU welcomed world-class jazz artists to campus for workshops and a performance.

Alumni Summer College
Bowling Green State University is an ideal location for special summer programming for alumni and friends. The University is proud to introduce Alumni Summer College. During the week of June 27, 2016, the Falcon Family can return to campus for educational and fun "courses" on a variety of topics. BGSU will also honor its Golden Falcons, alumni who have graduated more than 50 years ago. Watch for details!

All 425 student-athletes continue to show their commitment to the overall success of the BG community. BGSU Athletics now ranks No. 22 in the nation for total community service hours!

Battle of I-75
The Battle of I-75 resumes when the Falcons take on the University of Toledo Rockets on the gridiron on November 17. Alumni across the country are hosting watch parties to support BG.

Athletics recently recognized the 2015 Hall of Fame class. Notable alumni were inducted for their career achievements. Congratulations to Dan Bylsma '92, Kelly Hunt '14, Bill Jones '66, '68, Jim Lessig '57, '67 and Marcia Saneholtz '64.

Falcon Hockey continues to excel on the ice. The program ranks No. 12 in the national polls. Thanks to WCHA.TV, you can cheer on the Falcons remotely. Visit the website and create an account to start viewing the games!

Seshadri Tangutur
Seshadri Tangutur '87 has experienced the impact that BGSU has on students. This alumnus has joined the Snapchat leadership team bringing a sound understanding of how technology evolves. In a career that began at BGSU, he continues to change how society communicates.

The College of Business Administration hosted the annual Women in Leadership conference featuring keynote presenter and Wall Street icon Sallie Krawcheck. This year's speakers shared the value of a gender-diverse leadership team with the more than 600 attendees. Mark your calendars for the next Women in Leadership event on Friday, October 21, 2016.

As the semester moves forward, I'm confident that BGSU will continue to accomplish great things!
