1. Baseball hosts Eastern Michigan this weekend

Your Falcons host the Eagles today at 3 p.m. at Steller Field. Join us for a Star-Wars-filled game day, with the chance to win a storm trooper action figure! Then at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, your Falcons host Eastern Michigan again at Steller Field. Saturday is Dog Day so bring out your furry friends! As always, admission is free for students.

2. Capitalism discussion and abortion rights petition today

Join the BG Socialists for a free public discussion titled "What's Wrong with Capitalism?" tonight at 6 p.m. in the Pallister Room located on Jerome Library's 1st floor. We will talk about the greatest crises and challenges facing working people today. These issues range from climate change to poverty, labor rights and more. This will be accompanied with the discussion of possible solutions to these issues. The BG Socialists will also have a table in the Pallister Room throughout today as well as Saturday, April 15, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. where you can buy literature or sign the petition for an abortion rights amendment to be added to the Ohio constitution! If you're interested in signing the petition but can't come see us today or Saturday, please check out the Protect Choice Ohio website for opportunities to sign or volunteer.

3. Fides show with Jerry Cirino on how to defend the unborn

Fides means “knowledge, faith, truth” in Latin. Please join us on Monday, April 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. in room 315 in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union to discuss how to defend the unborn with Cleveland Right to Life Committee member, Jerry Cirino.

4. Retirement celebration for Steve Boone

We will be gathering to celebrate Professor Steve Boone, who is retiring after 36 years in the Department of Theatre and Film. Celebration will be held Sunday, April 16, from 4:15 to 6:00 p.m. on the Wolfe Center patio. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Wolfe Center lobby. Parking in the Wolfe Center lot is free on weekends.

5. Qavah Campus Worship is back

Qavah Campus Worship is back! We had a great experience in March and we're believing God for an outpouring before we depart for the summer! This is our cry and the Lord is set to use this worship experience to set every desiring heart free. It will be held on Saturday, April 22, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Olscamp 107. Everyone is invited!

1. International Studies farewell picnic and photo contest next Wednesday!

On Wednesday, April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. in room 208 of the Bowen-Thomspon Student Union, the International Studies Program will be hosting a farewell picnic to congratulate and say goodbye to our graduating majors and minors. All International Studies majors and minors are welcome to attend! We will have food, drinks and global trivia games as well as a slideshow of photos from students' study abroad experiences and memories of BGSU. Everyone who submits their photos will be entered into the International Studies photo contest!

Come celebrate the end of the academic year and our graduating majors and minors! Please send your photo submissions to Kaylee Shinaver (class of 2023 and our International Studies intern), at kayshin@bgsu.edu.

2. Origami demonstration

In early celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month in May, join the Office of Multicultural Affairs Ambassadors in an origami demonstration! Event is today from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in Bowen-Thompson Student Union room 427.

3. SAAM 5K and Dog Walk

It's not too late to register for the annual SAAM 5K and Dog Walk! Coming this Saturday, April 15, at the Student Recreation Center. Packet pickup starts at 9 a.m. with a 10 a.m. start for the race. All proceeds raised at the SAAM 5K and Dog Walk will go into supporting the Center for Violence Prevention and Education and The Cocoon, which provides crisis intervention and emotional support for victims of sexual assault, stalking, sexual harassment and sex trafficking. The Student Wellness Network will also be giving out beads that represent colors from the Clothesline Project that symbolize the many different ways sexual assault impacts us as a community.

Those who register will receive a free SAAM 5K and Dog Walk t-shirt, along with a free dog bandana to those who register with their furry friend! The Humane Society will also have some furry friends available to walk.

4. Take ACS 2500 - Cultural Pluralism online this summer

ACS 2500 will be offered online this summer during the second six week session from June 26 to Aug. 4. This class will explore the interdisciplinary exploration of race, ethnicity, class, gender and sexual orientation in the United States emphasizing imaginative expressive forms such as fiction, poetry, film and visual arts. 6. Free destress summer self-care kit

It is almost the end of the semester and that means finals week! To fight back the stress of finals, the Wellness Connection will be providing students the opportunity to gift a friend, faculty or partner a Destress Summer Self-Care Kit! This kit will come with a shower steamer, Chapstick, glow item and more! Just submit their name and what residence hall they belong to, even an encouraging message can make someone's day. This kindness initiative is in partnership with Summer Splash at the Student Recreation Center on Thursday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. so come out and relax before finals week!

7. Library open for five days straight starting Sunday!

Extended hours at Jerome Library begin this Sunday and run through the end of the semester! Take advantage of the extra time to study, meet with classmates and friends, complete projects and meet with librarians for research help and more!

EXTENDED HOURS:

8. MyPlate and tie-dye

Join the Wellness Connection on Wednesday, April 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Student Union room 314 to learn about MyPlate and the many different campus resources surrounding food access and nutrition. Students will then be able to make a free tie-dye t-shirt activity that will be perfect for the summer! Register now by Tuesday, April 18. It's the season to be fashionably you! 1. Search Committee Training for faculty/staff

This training focuses on building inclusive searches and should be taken by anyone chairing or serving on a search committee. We will review definitions, information on identities, conflict of interests, expectations of the chair and committee members and ways search committees help advance overarching goals. An upcoming training will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19.

2. Academic Analytics visit

On Thursday, April 20, a team from Academic Analytics will visit BGSU. The main purpose of their visit is to provide demonstrations and opportunities for informational interaction with BGSU faculty. BGSU has adopted Faculty Insight to enable our faculty to locate each other, form research collaborations and networks both inside BGSU and among scholars at 470 Ph.D.-granting institutions in the U.S. and develop our externally funded research potential. Faculty profiles are pre-populated in Faculty Insight with recent activity data sourced from Academic Analytics. This includes articles, books, grants, awards, conference proceedings and patents.

Faculty Insight can be used to:

  • Find subject matter experts and collaborators within the university or at another institution
  • Build interdisciplinary research teams
  • Showcase faculty scholarly activity with curated faculty profiles that are pre-populated for you
  • Identify federal funding and honorific award opportunities
  • Funding and awards are searchable by name, related topic and other filter options

3. Boost your writing productivity with a free 14-day writing challenge

You are invited to participate in a free 14-day writing challenge hosted by the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD), which will run from April 24 to May 7.

Open to all BGSU faculty, staff, students and administrators, the 14-Day writing challenge is a great way to boost your research productivity while enjoying some extra layers of support, accountability and motivation.

Whether you are working on a manuscript, a grant proposal, data analysis, a conference presentation, a performance piece, a report or a scholarly project, the 14-day writing challenge is designed to help you move your work forward.
