1. CWGE Research Seminar with Dr. Nicole Kalaf-Hughes
The Center for Women and Gender Equity is pleased to have Dr. Nicole Kalaf-Hughes participating in our next Research Seminar! Please join us on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from noon to 1 p.m. in Hayes Hall 203 for her presentation, “Thank you for writing!: Gender, Communication, & Representations on Elected School Boards.”
Dr. Kalaf-Hughes is an associate professor of Political Science at Bowling Green State University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of American political institutions and representation, with a focus on how institutional incentives affect the behavior of elected officials at the local and federal levels. Her recent projects explore the role of race, ethnicity and gender in representation, collaboration and policymaking in the U.S Congress. Her research agenda also includes pedagogical work on student engagement and she is the recipient of the American Political Science Association CQ Press Award for Teaching Innovation. Her work has appeared in journals including Politics, Groups and Identities, Journal of Public Policy, Policy Studies Journal, Politics & Gender, and the Journal of Political Science Education. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.

3. Work for Information Technology Services (ITS)!

5. Campus ReStore open Thursday! Free admission and stuff!
The Campus Re Store, an initiative of Campus Sustainability, will be open on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for current students, faculty and staff. There is no admission charge and all items are free. Come check out gently used and sometimes new items, and support waste reduction/re-use at BGSU! Three ring binders for all occasions! Office supplies, clothing, household items, toys, decorations, sporting goods, books of all kinds, crafting supplies, water bottles and much more! Enter the glass sliding doors of McDonald Hall off College Avenue across from Life Science.

6. Cold weather preparation
As we prepare for the upcoming cold weather, Campus Operations is reaching out to ask for your help in identifying any weather-related building issues. During this cold weather, it is important to keep doors and windows closed and latched. This will help in keeping cold drafts out of the buildings.
Additionally, please help Campus Operations by reporting any weather related concerns. Issues could include:
- Heating issues
- Drafts
- Humidity issues
- Change in equipment sounds
- Faucets no longer working
- Cracked windows
- Wet or dripping ceiling tile
- Wet carpeting
- Alarms going off
To report an issue, please call the help desk 2-2251 or police dispatch at 2-2346 (after hours).

7. Get a $5 Amazon or Starbucks e-gift card to taste protein bars!
To participate, you must be at least 18 years old, eat protein bars (protein bars, granola bars, etc.) at least once a month, have no food allergies and have no issues with your sense of taste and smell. If you qualify, you will be asked to eat and rate three protein bar samples. You will then be asked basic demographic questions. This taste test will happen in Health and Human Services room 133 on Feb. 6 from 1 to 5 p.m., Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon and 2:30 to 5:00 p.m., and Feb. 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. and should take about 5 to 10 minutes.

1. America on Fire: A Brief History of Black Protests Against Police speaker

With the release of video footage of Memphis police killing Tyre Nichols, massive protests against police violence are taking place once again across the country. This week’s meeting of the “Finding Your Voice in Social Justice” Learning Community is focused on the longer history of Black activism against state violence and racism, with a particular emphasis on movements from the 1950s to the present. Using these movements as a starting point, we will consider what changes these movements sought, the forms that their activism took and the limits of reform in our own time.

2. Graphic Design Specialist needed!
Falcon Outfitters is looking to hire a Graphic Design intern!
The Graphic Design Specialist is a highly competitive real-world employment opportunity, but is conveniently located on-campus, allowing students to easily work around their class schedule. Working hands-on to design and produce a variety of media, students will build their portfolio and highly value the experience. The position can be filled as a co-op, but this is not a requirement.
Duties include:
- Development of graphic design (elements) for Falcon Outfitters to be applied across multiple media
- Design & prepare media specifically for electronic applications, including HTML5 for web pages, targeted marketing and mass email distribution using Bookstores permission marketing service
- Produce & maintain web-based content utilizing the BGSU content management system and a retail e-commerce transactional platform
- Produce printed media, including use of large format printer for signage, posters and display boards, as well as flyers, brochures, reports, display advertisements or direct mailers

6. Sex in the Dark: A Safe Place Talk about healthy relationships
Do you have questions regarding health, sex, sexual health or questioning sexuality? You are free to ask them at Sex in the Dark. Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Wellness Connection, we offer you a judgement free and anonymous way of asking questions you may have. A panel from the The Division of Diversity and Belonging, Division of Health and Wellness and Falcon Health Center will be present to answer your questions.
The event will be Wednesday, Feb. 8, in The Union Theater at 6 p.m.! The first 100 people will receive a free safe sex kit from the Wellness Connection!

8. BeYOUtiful Beings: Body image drop-in support group
In this group, hosted at the BGSU Counseling Center, students will have a chance to explore their feelings about themselves and their bodies in a supportive environment. We will work to explore the way students think about themselves, their bodies and their appearance to explore ways to feel more confident with who they are. This group meets weekly every Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m., and it is a drop-in group, meaning that students can attend as they are able. Learn more about the body image drop-in support group.
The Counseling Center welcomes all students. We aspire to respect cultural, individual and role differences. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive and affirming climate for individuals of all races, ethnicities, national origins, genders, gender identities, sexual/affectional orientations, religions, ages, abilities, sizes, socioeconomic statuses, languages and cultures.

13. Study abroad in Rome this summer!
Come to an informational Zoom meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 12:30 p.m. about studying Roman history in the "Eternal City" (Roma Aeterna) during Summer Session I. You'll live in Rome for three weeks (May 17 to June 6), study Rome's history and visit the physical remains in their original spaces and museums. Students will earn credit for this Education Abroad experience as HIST 3445: Roman history (multidisciplinary credit). 1. True Black History Museum exhibit & lecture
On Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Falcon Square, join us for the True Black History Museum, a traveling museum that teaches True Black history through the use of rare and authentic artifacts. We are committed to preserving the history of African-Americans, and to teaching others of the many great contributions that African-Americans have made to mankind.
A lecture, "What They Didn't Teach you in History Class: America's Hidden True Black History" will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in 115 GMH. Journey through the African-American experience with a collection and lecture that celebrates and highlights the contribution of African-Americans in the arts, sciences, sports, entertainment, education and politics.
The lecture will explore topics from the many great civilizations in Africa, through the Transatlantic Slave Trade, Slavery, The Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights/Black Power movement, to understanding modern struggles for racial justice.

1. Canvas New Quizzes workshop
“New Quizzes” is an updated assessment engine that integrates with Canvas and replaces the Classic Quizzes functionality. New Quizzes is currently enabled for instructors to begin using this quiz engine when building quizzes and exams. In this session we will explore new question types such as Categorization, Ordering and Hot Spots, as well as discuss how to manage Item Banks. Instructors will have an opportunity to create questions in an item bank in their own Canvas course and add the item bank to a quiz. We will review how to migrate Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes and how to migrate Classic Quiz question banks to a New Quiz item bank for instructors looking to transfer Classic Quizzes over to the new quiz engine.
