1. Beginner Learn to Skate Lessons are BACK!

Beginner Learn to Skate Lessons are BACK! Beginner level Learn to Skate lessons are available for ages 3 through adult. Summer I classes begin Tuesday.

Classes: Tuesdays on the Multi-Purpose Ice Summer I: June 8, 15, 22, 29, July 6
Summer II: July 13, 20, 27, August 3, 10, 17

5:30 – 6 p.m.: Tots ages 3-4 6 – 6:30 p.m.: Beginner ages 5-7 6:30 – 7 p.m.: Beginner ages 8 – 13 & Adults 14+

Details: • 30-minute classes for beginning through Basic 2 skaters • Youth and Adult • Skate rentals included • Practice Pass included • Sport Helmet required • Current LTS USA Membership required ($18) • Summer I $60 • Summer II $72 • BGSU COVID policies apply

2. Know a student in crisis? Here's how to help!

Help create a Community of Care at BGSU and make sure no Falcon struggles unnoticed and alone! Start the Conversation is a collaborative training offered by the Counseling Center and the Humanities Troupe from the Department of Theatre and Film. In the training, you will learn how to contribute to a community of care, how to identify the warning signs of people who may be struggling and how to help (including suicide prevention strategies). Simple expressions of care are powerful, and you can make a difference in someone's life!

The next training is Wednesday, June 16, 1-2:30 p.m., Zoom. Register and learn more about how you can help create a community of care at BGSU!

1. Building Community in a Virtual Classroom

Fostering a sense of community and belonging in remote learning contexts can help students feel less isolated and more connected to their peers, the instructor, and the course content. This workshop focuses on elements of online pedagogy that promote community building in remote learning.

Referencing the Community of Inquiry framework, this session focuses on online and remote teaching strategies and Canvas tools that support Cognitive Presence (critical thinking and reflection), Teaching Presence (facilitating discussions, creating connections, and providing feedback and support), and Social Presence (student engagement, authentic peer interaction, shared goals, and collaboration).

Tuesday, June 22, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

2. Collaborating in a Virtual Classroom

This workshop serves as an introduction or review of communication and collaboration strategies and tools for effective online teaching and learning. In this workshop, we will discuss and explore effective Canvas features and teaching strategies that can help you create collaborative spaces and inclusive learning experiences in your online and remote course.

3. Personalized Fitness & Wellness Guidance

Now offering free chats with a public health nurse to support questions related to COVID-19 or other health-related concerns you may have. Schedule your call.

In addition, we have certified personal trainers and a dietitian to help jumpstart or sustain your fitness and well-being journey. Get your questions answered and receive personalized support. Schedule your free session with a registered dietitian.

4. Returning to Campus: Tips for Ensuring Your Well-Being

When: Wednesday, June 9 Time: Noon to 1 p.m. Join Zoom meeting

Join campus experts for a Q&A session as they offer information on a variety of health and wellness topics. Have a question you would like answered on these topics during the discussion? Email health@bgsu.edu with your question by noon Tuesday, June 8.

• Paige Wagner, RDN, LD: Learn how to maintain and improve healthy habits while transitioning back to campus. • Karyn Smith, MPH: Staying active on campus - Learn more about the mental health benefits of exercise and tips to incorporate more movement into your work day. • Brittany Howard, BSN, RN, LSN: Learn about vaccine effectiveness as well as strategies to stay healthy and prevent illness throughout the year. • Bess Huyghe, MSOH, AHES: Learn a few main tips regarding proper computer workstation setup, an overview of the tools and information available on Environmental Health and Safety’s (EHS) website, and an understanding of how EHS can help moving forward. • Erica Mills, M.Ed.: Erica will share her experiences working on campus during the pandemic. •Faith DeNardo, PhD, CHES: Moderator

5. Camtasia for Beginners Workshop

Camtasia is a powerful application that allows you to record your screen and create and share dynamic videos. You can use Camtasia to record PowerPoint lectures, Canvas course introductions, homework reviews, and other custom videos that are tailored around your content. The Center for Faculty Excellence is offering a demonstration of the Screen Capture Software for BGSU faculty members.
