10. Free, No-Contact Electronic Recycling Drive with Campus Sustainability

Clean out your garages, basements, and attics of unwanted electronics! The Office of Campus Sustainability is hosting a free, no-contact electronic recycling drive next Saturday, March 13th. All BGSU students, faculty & staff, and residents of Bowling Green are encouraged to drive in, drive out, and drop off electronic waste! Recyclable e-waste includes items like outdated computers and monitors, scrap wires and cables, and much more!

WHEN: Saturday, 03/13/2021 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: Lot 10 – Located in the parking lot in front of the Slater Family Ice Arena, off of Mercer Road.

More than 50 million tons of electronic waste is produced each year in the U.S., the majority ending up in landfills. When thrown away in landfills, electronic devices and scrap materials release toxic chemicals and heavy metals, like mercury and lithium, that seep into groundwater, harming both land and sea animals! 3) Maureen Barry; Assistant Professor, Reference and Instruction Reference Librarian

4) Edith Scarletto, Assistant Professor, Reference and Instruction Librarian

“Information literacy (IL) is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning.” (Association of College and Research Libraries, 2015). IL concepts and skills apply to academic assignments, but how are we helping our students transfer those skills to everyday information gathering, particularly in the context of community engagement and preparing active, informed citizens in a democracy? In this two-part workshop, faculty will integrate information literacy knowledge practices and dispositions into a new or existing course unit, assignment, learning activity, or program. The first workshop will involve learning more about different information literacy techniques and resources. The second workshop will bring participants back together to share how they applied information literacy techniques and resources in courses, programs, or other areas.
