2. Free mindfulness workshops

Focused Falcon Mindful Moments Workshops are free 4-week workshops offered to help manage stress, strengthen focus and attention, and increase memory. Additional key components of the workshops include learning mindfulness meditation, stress management techniques, methods to respond to difficult situations, and skills to live with intention and purpose. Introductory and advanced workshops are available.

3. Know a student in crisis? Here's how to help!

Help create a Community of Care at BGSU and make sure no Falcon struggles unnoticed and alone! Start the Conversation is a collaborative training offered by the Counseling Center and the Humanities Troupe from the Department of Theatre and Film.

In the training, you will learn how to contribute to a community of care, how to identify the warning signs of people who may be struggling, and how to help (including suicide prevention strategies). Simple expressions of care are powerful, and you can make a difference in someone's life!

The next training is Wednesday, Oct. 20, 3 to 4 p.m. in BTSU 316. Register and learn more about how you can help create a community of care at BGSU!

7. Register for LGBTQ+ Educators event!

LGBTQ+ Educators is a three-part event for current students to learn from educators who identify as LGBTQ+ on Oct. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Olscamp 101. The event will start with some brief education from BGSU’s LGBTQ+ Resource Center from 5-5:30 p.m. We will then move into the panel section of the event. Participants will be able to submit questions when they register and while they are at the event. After the panel, we will break into small groups to increase conversations on supporting LGBTQ+ folxs. 8. See It. Hear It. Report It.

Bowling Green State University is committed to community well-being and belonging. In turn, it is the responsibility of each person within the University community to take action when an issue or concern arises.

You can use this form to report potential violations of the Code of Student Conduct on or off campus involving students or recognized student organizations. Incidents include but are not limited to: alcohol misuse, drug use, violations of Residence Life or other campus policies, physical assault, organizational misconduct, disruptive behavior or theft.

10. Submit a proposal for 21st Century Englishes!

The deadline for 21st Century Englishes proposals has been extended until Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 11:59 p.m.!

This year's theme is "Possibility: Prioritizing Accessibility in Teaching, Learning, and Language." This free, virtual conference provides both live and pre-recorded opportunities to imagine how we can better center accessibility during and beyond this present moment. If you have work or experiences you want to share about accessibility, learning, teaching or language through the pandemic, please consider submitting a proposal.

We invite individual and panel proposals from academics and community members, and particularly encourage submissions from graduate students, undergraduate students and contingent faculty on this theme prompted by the topics and questions in the CFP.

13. Vegan foods tasting on the Green Roof!

Join the Office of Campus Sustainability and BGSU Dining on the Green Roof on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for a vegan foods tasting! Learn how to reduce your carbon food print, enjoy the scenery of the Green Roof and taste delicious vegan food! The Green Roof can be accessed through the Einstein Bagels entrance (double doors) and by following the stairs up to the second floor of the building.

14. Free healthy groceries

Join us on campus next week for the mobile food pantry! We offer fresh produce and non-perishable foods. Open to all students, faculty, staff and community members. There are no restrictions, but an ID is recommended for quicker service.

Behind the Health and Human Services building, with BGSU parking passes available to community members only. Volunteer opportunities will be available the day of and day before the pantry.

The mobile food pantry is coordinated between Food for Thought in Toledo and Food Justice & Equity in the C. Marvin Center for Student Leadership, BGSU.

Undergraduate and graduate students have been randomly selected to receive the Healthy Minds Study Survey. This is a national online survey assessing student mental health and service utilization on college campuses.

Participating in this study will not only make you eligible for one of fifty $20 amazon gift cards, but it is also an opportunity to make your voice heard! The confidential information provided to faculty and administration from this study reflects students’ day-to-day experiences on campus, and provides insight into both your struggles and successes. This knowledge will be used to inform policy, practice, and funding for programs and services on campus, thus bettering student life.

14. Volunteers needed for school visit

On Nov. 9, approximately 200 5th & 6th grade students from Hancock County will visit campus for the day.

The Summer Academic & Youth Program Office is looking for group guides to assist the four or five groups in transitioning from one activity to the next. Volunteers will guide their groups to respective stations on campus per the group schedule (Walk from Union to the planetarium, or to the green house, etc).

As part of volunteering, a free lunch voucher will be provided.

1. Mental Health Conference Series

On Friday, Nov. 5, from 9 - 4 p.m., NAMI Wood County will be hosting their Mental Health Conference Series entitled Recovery: More Than Just a Pill. Their conference series will provide participants with more information on a holistic approach to mental health treatment and recovery. The conference series will have multiple sessions available to participants and will include a variety of clinicians and individuals with lived experience presenting.

We wanted to reach out to BGSU faculty about the opportunity for students in your courses to attend this event. We are able to offer the conference FREE for your entire class to come to the conference OR offer a discount code for students not associated with a class.

2. CFE lab: Assessing your online, remote and hybrid course design

Throughout the Assessing Course Design and Delivery workshop we discuss elements of course design that influence both the teaching and learning that occur within an online, remote or hybrid course. The next step is to assess the design and delivery of your virtual courses. In this lab, an instructional designer will review standards for high quality course design and assist you as you work on enhancing the design and organization of your Canvas course shells. Prerequisite: Previous participation in the Assessing Course Design and Delivery workshop.

4. How to complete SAAC reports

Come to this session to have your questions about completing Student Achievement Assessment Committee (SAAC) reports answered. The purpose of the SAAC short-form assessment report is to identify and describe the programmatic Learning Outcomes that were assessed this academic year and how the results are being applied to improve programs. The goal of the SAAC long-form assessment report is to describe the assessments completed during past academic years and how the results are being applied to improve programs. Clarifying information about SAAC short-form and long-form reports will be provided.
