BGSU COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT ACHIEVE NATIONAL ACCREDITATION

The College of Education and Human Development recently received accreditation for 2016-2022 under the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) standards. NCATE’s performance-based accreditation system for teacher preparation ensures that teacher candidates are prepared to make a difference in PK-12 student learning.

This accreditation decision confirms that BGSU’s education preparation programs meet rigorous standards set forth by the professional education community.

Dr. Dawn Shinew, dean of the college, acknowledged the importance of the accreditation process in ensuring that BGSU’s graduates are prepared to be effective educators and leaders. The review team, comprised of a prestigious group of educators from around the country, commented that they found the University’s students “to be bright; interpersonally engaging; academically serious; extremely fond of their university, college, faculty, and friends; and, with great potential to become education leaders.”

OHIO ARTS COUNCIL GRANTS FUNDS TO THREE FACULTY, ALUMNA

Creativity is priceless, but the expression of it can cost money. Helping fund those costs, the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) has awarded $5,000 each to BGSU Creative Writing faculty members Dr. Lawrence Coates and Theresa Williams and music composition faculty member Dr. Mikel Kuehn. In addition to the faculty, Creative Writing alumna Amy Gustine, who published her first book this spring, was the recipient of an Individual Excellence Award. “We’re very proud of her,” Coates said, noting that Gustine returned to campus this spring to give a reading in Prout Chapel.
