Your Orientation Step-by-Step Guide
How to Get the Most out of your SOAR Experience
We call our new student orientation SOAR – which stands for Student Orientation, Advising and Registration. The SOAR experience is designed to provide you all the resources and information you need to be ready for starting classes at BGSU. Through SOAR programming, you will have the opportunity to work on your class schedule with your advisor, connect with future classmates, determine your bill and review payment options and learn more about living and learning at BGSU. Every step of the way, we encourage you to ask questions – we’re here for you!
STEP 2: COMPLETE YOUR WRITING PLACEMENT ESSAY
- You can complete your placement essay by logging in to MyBGSU>Orientation>Placement Tests
STEP 3: SIGN YOUR FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AGREEMENT
- You can complete your placement essay by logging in to MyBGSU>Student Center>To Do
STEP 4: SEND YOUR DOCUMENTS
- The Office of Admissions needs you to send the following documents as soon as possible. Most high schools and colleges will know how to do this:
- Final Transcripts
- College Transcripts (If applicable)
- AP Scores

At BGSU, you are required to meet with your academic advisor prior to scheduling your courses for the first three semesters.
Before you can schedule your spring courses, you will receive an email with a link and information about how to set up a virtual appointment with your advisor. If you have questions for your advisor earlier, you can contact your College Advising Office for assistance.
MEET THE SOAR ORIENTATION LEADERS
To help you get ready for your BGSU journey, you will be paired with one of these Orientation Leaders. Keep an eye on your email for opportunities to connect with your Orientation Leader via virtual "hangouts."
RECOMMENDED PRE-SOAR WEBINARS
We’ve developed five webinars with YOU in mind! We know you will have many questions prior to your SOAR date, so we have tailored these sessions so they are jam-packed with answers and resources students and families are looking for before spring semester begins. It is HIGHLY encouraged that you attend a least a couple of these sessions prior to SOAR.
