CHOOSE OHIO FIRST – TECHNOLOGY WORKS
Get an early start on “Putting Your Degree to Work” through Co-op and a Scholarship.
The College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering is recruiting Ohio students through a new scholarship offering called Choose Ohio First - Technology Works. As a Choose Ohio First - Technology Works Scholar, students have the opportunity to enhance their growth, development and success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Recipients who receive the award can pair the money with other BGSU funds as long as it doesn’t exceed the cost of instructional and general fees. The state of Ohio wants us to produce more graduates who excel in the STEMM fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine.
The Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program will strengthen Ohio’s position in aerospace, computer technology and alternative energy, as described on the Choose Ohio First website. “Graduates employed in STEMM fields, on average, earn more than graduates in non-STEMM fields and participate in innovative, cutting-edge research and development,” the Ohio Higher Ed website said. “STEMM scholars, likely to live here and earn here, will positively impact Ohio's economy.”
Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements
The scholarships are for $5,000 for Ohio students with at least a 23 on the ACT and a 3.4 high school GPA. In addition to meeting the academic requirements for a Choose Ohio First - Technology Works Scholarship, students will need to:
Enroll as a full-time student in a major approved by the Choose Ohio First - Technology Works Program:
- Construction Management
- Engineering Technology
- Mechatronics Engineering Technology
- Visual Communication Technology
Maintaining Scholarship Eligibility
- Regularly meet with an adviser
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA for renewal
As part of the work force development of the grant, students need to pursue co-ops in Ohio. In addition to pursuing a co-op in the state of Ohio, students are also required to maintain a 3.0 GPA and regularly meet with an advisor. The College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering at BGSU requires two or three paid co-ops in the Choose Ohio First – Technology Works approved programs. Those who study STEMM -related majors improve their problem-solving skills. College is an investment, so these scholarships will help offset some of the cost.
Students can access the scholarship and ensure their eligibility at the searchable scholarship guide, Academic Works.
