The Co-op Process
Your involvement and mentorship is an integral part of the goal of College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering. For 50 years the cooperative education program has played a vital role in producing prepared, quality students ready to enter the workplace. Cooperative education is an experience that allows students the opportunity to apply academic coursework to a work environment. These experiences provide students with skills that are essential in their future careers and in life.
What are College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering students learning that could benefit your company/organization? The College offers nine majors:

To recruit students for employers, the College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering coordinates with the Career Center and uses an online system called Handshake to manage the process of posting available Co-op positions and hiring students in these positions. The Technology Co-op Office can notify students in the college about opportunities related to their specific majors.
Information needed to promote an opportunity
- Position Title, description, location, pay rate, etc.
- Employer contact information
- Employer company information (website, mission statement, etc.)
- Deadline Date students should apply. CO-OP semester dates and deadlines

Co-op Recruiting Options
The co-op office and the Career Center can assist you with recruiting and hiring a co-op student in a variety of ways, including assisting with gathering resumes and scheduling on campus interviews with the employer. The Co-op office and/or the Career Center can provide space for on campus face to face interviews, phone or video conference interviews.
Effective April 23, 2018, employers can post positions to Handshake - The Universities new modern platform for connecting with and recruiting Bowling Green State University students and alumni. Handshake replaces our former system, Worknet, and allows you to:
- Access thousands of Bowling Green State University candidates
- Submit and manage your experiential learning and full-time employment online postings
- Schedule your on campus interview visit
- Review your applicant pool
- Create and update your organization's profile
To post a position, you must sign up and create a Handshake account:
If you are a current employer that has an existing account in our former system, Worknet, and you need to access your employer profile or online postings to transfer to Handshake, you can log in using the following link:
Notify the co-op office directly to target College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering Students specifically.
- Direct emails to specifically targeted students
- Message boards
- Faculty announcements
- Co-op managed social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Determine when you need students. (Link to semester schedule)
- Contact the co-op office to determine your specific needs as an employer, via email email@example.com, phone 419-372-7581, and connect on Handshake.
- The co-op office then advertises your position to students via the various methods mentioned above.
Students have access to view positions that are advertised through Handshake, an online database that connects employers with students and alumni. Students are also invited to follow and like co-op office managed social media sites, which the co-op office uses to promote various career development opportunities and events.
Employers should communicate periodically via email, phone, or the online employer request form regarding future co-ops and can set up and manage their own Handshake account.
