Student Affairs Leadership Council
The Division of Student Affairs Leadership Council is comprised of successful alumni and friends who advise the Vice President for Student Affairs and Vice Provost on matters of student engagement, student retention, student leadership development, and overall student success. The Council meets twice per year (fall and spring). Our work is organized around subcommittees that meet during our fall/spring meetings. Members are expected to attend meetings, actively serve on subcommittees, and provide financial support to the Division and/or student organizations and affinity groups (minimum contribution of $1,000 per year).
Timothy F. Smith '65, '67, Chair
Timothy F. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1965 and a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel in 1967. Smith was the Assistant Dean of Students in 1965 to 1975. After working for Wood county as a County Administrator, for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Ohio, and Sky Insurance, then proceeded to come back to Bowling Green State University to work as the Associate Vice President for Research and Economic Development until 2013.

Joe Copeland '75
Joseph H. Copeland, 1975 Alumnae has a B.S. in Education from Bowling Green University and a M.Ed. from the University of Cincinnati. Joe has taught and coached both elementary and middle schools. Additionally, he has over 25 year’s administrative experience in both the public school and non-profit arenas. He currently serves as advisor of the chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity he chartered at BG and works for Net Pac International, LLC. Joe resides in Columbus with his wife, Deborah.
Karen Dematteo '64
Karen DeMatteo graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. She taught in Montgomery County Schools in Maryland for 35 years. She was very involved the Kappa Delta sorority at the University of Maryland, was alumni Panhellenic President as well as chairman of the 100th anniversary of the Greek System. DeMatteo was Co-chairman of the committee which wrote the document of Greek Vision for the University of Maryland.
Pauline Furman '73, '75
Dr. Pauline J. Furman is the Executive Director and Owner of the Center for Individual & Family Counseling, Inc. She has been in private practice for the past 25 years. The office provides mental health services to individuals, couples and families.Dr. Furman has been an active member of the BGSU Black Alumni Committee for several decades and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Michael E. Kuhlin '68
Mike Kuhlin retired as Senior Director of Corporate Relations for Ameritech, now AT&T. He went on to hold senior positions with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and, currently, the Voyage Financial Group. In addition to serving on the Student Affairs Leadership Council, Mike is Chair-elect of the University’s Foundation Board of Directors. He also is Secretary of the Special Olympics of Illinois Foundation, a Board member of the Owensboro Health Foundation in Kentucky and the Grand Haven Homeowners Association in Romeoville IL.
Ed Leedom '89
Ed Leedom received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University in 1989 and a CFP® designation from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, CO. Leedom began his career with Harbor Capital Advisors and after moving around a bit, he rejoined Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc. in 2001. As a senior vice president of Harbor Funds Distributors, his responsibilities include developing and maintaining new and existing institutional client relationships in the Lower Midwest region as well as managing internal sales support activities.

Judy Wahrman '73, '88
Judith Wahrman graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Administration and Supervision. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from New York University. She has taught higher education at University of Findlay, Bowling Green State University and Lourdes College. Judith Wahrman has been recognized and awarded grants and certificates for her excellent endeavors throughout her career.
Marsha Watts '76
Marsha L. Watts graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Sociology. She then went on to graduate with a MEd in Counseling and Guidance from Xavier University in Cincinnati. She currently works at Mount St. Joseph University as a Director of Upward Bound. Watts also currently is a consulting associate with Lee Hecht Harrison, a Career Management Organization.
