36-Hour Volunteer Firefighter Certification

For motivated people who want the opportunity to complete their certification in 5 days.

This class meets the mandated 36-hour training requirement under Chapter 4765.55 of the Ohio Revised Code. The curriculum includes fire behavior, personal protective equipment, firefighter safety, forcible entry, ventilation, equipment, and overhaul. The state exam will be given and graded on Wednesday, October 9.

Special Requirements
You must be 18 years old. Bring complete NFPA approved turnout gear and SCBA with one spare tank. No beards allowed. Prior to the class you must complete Federal required training online. You must submit proof of completion of IC-100 and IC-700.

You must complete the required workbook chapters PRIOR to the first day of class.


Required Textbook
You must purchase and bring Essentials of Firefighting, Sixth Edition and workbook. 

You MUST read the required chapters for Firefighter 1 and complete the corresponding chapters (1, 2, 5-7 and 9-18) in the workbook (IFSTA Essentials, 6th Edition). You must bring with you a letter signed by your chief or training officer stating that you have been serviced in your SCBA. You must sign and have your chief sign the State of Ohio 36-Hour Course Disclaimer Form, which will be sent to you with your registration confirmation, and bring this with you on the first day of class.
