Room Change & Waitlist Requests | Next Semester

The room selection process doesn't have to end unless you want it to. If you ended up in a residence hall you aren't satisfied with, or you and your friend had to choose a room away from each other, you can fill out the Hall Waitlist or the Room Change Request Form

How to request a room change after you select your room:

If you are going through the room selection process and looking to change your room assignment before you move-in, you need to understand the distinct differences between the waitlist form and the room change request form so you know which type of request you should make.

Requests on both forms are granted on a first-come, first-served basis and we process requests throughout the summer. You will be notified through your BGSU email if your request is approved. On average, we are able to fulfill 70% - 80% of the requests we receive but this is solely determined by factors outside of our control. Requests can only be granted if space becomes available.

We will start accepting requests based on the following timelines:

RETURNING STUDENT TIMELINE

The waitlist and room request forms open at 9 a.m. on April 7 and close at 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 1. Our office will start granting requests on a rolling basis.

NEW & TRANSFER STUDENT TIMELINE

The waitlist and room request forms open at 9 a.m. on June 23. and close at 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 1. Our office will start granting requests in June.

WAITLIST FORMS list

The waitlist is for Centennial Hall and Falcon Heights only. Students who have a room assignment for next fall semester in a different building, and would like to be reassigned to Centennial Hall or Falcon Heights if space opens up, can place themselves on the waitlist.

If you have a room assignment in Centennial Hall or Falcon Heights, they you will need to fill out the room change request form instead.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WAITLIST PROCESS:

Step 1: Fill out the form. The Waitlist Form is for Falcon Heights (returning students) and Centennial Hall (new students) only. If the hall you wish to be re-assigned to isn't listed, you should fill out the room change request form instead

Step 2: Wait to hear from us. After you fill out the form, and you are next on the list when a spot opens up, a call will be made to the phone number you provided. You will be given 24 hours to accept the offer. If there is no answer, a voicemail will be left. If there is no ability to leave a voicemail an email will be sent to your BGSU Email Account notifying you of the space and deadline. If you do not return the call, respond to the email within 24 hour -or- if you do not want to accept the offer, your name will be removed from the waitlist. The next person on the list would get the offer for the spot.

Helpful tip: Make sure your voicemail is set up so you don't miss this important call.

IMPORTANT:

  • Waitlist halls:
    • Centennial Hall | New and transfer students can be placed on the Centennial Hall waitlist
    • Falcon Heights | Returning students can be placed on the Falcon Heights waitlist
  • You can only fill out the waitlist as an INDIVIDUAL. You will be separated from your roommate if your request is approved.
  • If the hall you wish to be re-assigned to isn't listed, or you need to make a different request, fill out the room change request form instead.
  • Placing yourself on a waitlist DOES NOT guarantee you a spot. When a spot opens up the Office of Residence Life will use the waitlists to fill it.
  • Priority is given on a first come, first served basis – not by payment date or completed credit hours.

WAITLIST FAQs

You can only fill out the waitlist as an INDIVIDUAL. It is very rare two spots in the same room, will open at the same time you and your roommate are next on the list. Because of this, when you get the call to move into the waitlist building, the space will only be for you.

You have 24-hours to accept or deny the reassignment when we call you. You will not be able to wait to see if your roommate gets offered a space before you make a decision.

Yes. You can identify what residence hall and what type of room in the hall you want to be on the waitlist for. If you want to be considered for a single and double in the same hall, you must fill out the form for each.

Yes.  You will be able to preference double or single on the waitlist.  If you do not want to be considered for both room types, please only select one room preference in the waitlist.

If we reached out to you about an opening and you do not respond within the 24-hour window, the next person on the list will receive the offer and your name will be removed from the waitlist. If you would like to still be considered for an opening in a waitlist hall, please contact our office so you can be removed and then you can re-add yourself.
