Homecoming Challenge

THE OFFICE OF RESIDENCE LIFE IS CHALLENGING ALL RESIDENCE HALLS AND GREEK TOWNHOUSES TO COME OUT AND COMPETE IN THE SPIRT OF FUN AND FALCON PRIDE!

About the Challenge

PARTICIPATE IN THE FOLLOWING EVENTS AND EARN POINTS. THE HALL AND GREEK TOWNHOUSE WITH THE MOST POINTS WIN!

  • The winning residence hall will receive $500 to go toward their Hall Council budget, a trophy and bragging rights for a year!
  • The winning Greek chapter will receive $500 to go toward their chapter's parlor fee, a trophy and bragging rights for a year!
  • CHALLENGE FOR CHARITY

    Oct. 8 – 12, Residence Halls and Greek Townhouses

    Participants are challenged to collect dry and canned goods to assist BGSU students with food insecurities and the Brown Bag Food Project!

    Greek Townhouses | Show your falcon pride for homecoming. Blank A-Frame posters will be provided to all Chapter Houses that sign-up to participate.

    • Posters and A-Frames will be distributed on Oct. 5 and will be picked up on Oct. 10.
    • All posters must be appropriate in nature and reflect the positive spirit of Homecoming and the individual chapter.
    • A-Frames will be displayed publicly prior to Saturday.
    • Posters must be completed and ready for pick-up by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
    • Be sure to incorporate the 2018 theme

    Lobby Decorating

    Residence Halls | Show your falcon pride for homecoming. Decorate your lobby, paint your windows and show your falcon spirit.

    BED RACES & BLOCK PARTY

    Oct. 11, 4 – 6 p.m., Parking Lot N

    Speed, spirit and style! We are looking for it all in the 6th annual Bed Races! Teams of 5 will race for glory and fun! Do not forget to sign up your teams with the Office of Residence Life.

    * Bonus Criteria: Spirit Squad must have at least three persons. Must be identifiable as supporting your team. This can be done by having similar costumes, signs, cheering, etc… Spirit Squad must be confirmed by a present member of the Programming Committee

    1. Teams will compete in time trials with the top teams advancing from each race until there is a winner.
    2. People pushing the bed must have their hands on the bed at all times during the race until the bed has come to a complete stop.
    3. The people in the front of the bed are responsible for steering and controlling the bed, while those in the back provide the power and speed.
    4. At the conclusion of each race please return the bed to the starting line.
    5. IMPORTANT | If a team member removes their hands from the bed before it is stopped the team will be disqualified regardless of the outcome of the race. This is to ensure the safety and security of all participants.

    HOMECOMING PARADE – BANNER & FLOAT COMPETITION

    Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m., Wooster Ave

    Join your fellow falcons in showing off your BGSU pride! Show off those banners and floats representing the Homecoming spirit and your Hall or House.

    Greek Banners & Floats

    Banner

    • Minimum 6' wide 3' high
    • Must include the chapter’s name
    • Must be used during the parade
    • No offensive content or obscene language or images
    • Must include the Academic Year
    • Will be judged on Creativity & BGSU Spirit

    Float

    • Must meet all BGSU guidelines for float participation
    • Must include the chapter’s name
    • Must be used during the parade
    • No offensive content or obscene language or images
    • Must include the Academic Year
    • Will be judged on Creativity & BGSU Spirit

    Competition

    • Chapters must be registered and have a delegation in the parade with their banner/float
    • Banners/Floats will be judged at the parade
      • Office of Residence Life staff will judge the banner/float based on the guidelines.
    • Must tweet a photo to @BGSUResLife, of the banner/float being utilized in the parade with the hashtags #BGSUReslife, #BGFalconPride.

    • Must utilize the banner/float in the parade
    • Delegation must be involved and engaged with the community during the parade. (E.g. Costumes, Passing out Candy, Giving out Information, Performing)

    • Must be used during the parade

    • Banners will be judged after the parade
      • Banners will be hung in the Office of Residence Life
      • Office of Residence Life central staff will judge the banner based on the guidelines.
    • Must tweet a photo to @BGSUResLife, of the banner being utilized in the parade with the hashtags #BGSUReslife, #BGFalconPride.

    RESIDENCE LIFE CELEBRATION

    Oct. 13, 10:30 a.m. – Noon, Alumni Mall outside of Kreischer

    Please join the Office of Residence Life in a celebration of life on campus. Through the years, we make memories together and we want to share them. Speakers, refreshments, music and a little bit of history! Winners will be announced!
