Refund Schedule

There are only three circumstances the University will grant a Housing Refund and will only be granted in accordance to the Forfeiture Schedule. These reasons are...


Reason 1

You are unable to attend Bowling Green State University

Reason 2

You have decided not to reside on campus and you are eligible to live off campus 

Reason 3

Will be commuting from home according to the On-Campus Residency Requirement


You should immediately notify the Office of Residence Life to minimize financial loss at 419-372-2011 or reslife@bgsu.edu if you fall within one of these categories.

Please note: Students that lived on campus for the Fall term must fulfill a housing exemption to receive a refund for the Spring term.

CANCELLATION and WITHDRAW FORFEITURE SCHEDULE

It is hereby agreed that the Forfeiture Schedule set forth in this Agreement shall be applied in the event that the Student decides not to reside on-campus and cancels prior to occupancy or withdraws from the University before, or after, occupancy. This Forfeiture Schedule will be applied for the full academic year.

2021-22 Fall Semester

The University will retain as forfeiture:

On or before May 1, 2021 No Forfeiture
May 2, 2021-August 25, 2021   $200*
August 26, 2021-September 1, 2021 10% of Housing Rate for Fall Semester
September 2, 2021-September 8, 2021 20% of Housing Rate for Fall Semester
September 9, 2021-September 15, 2021 40% of Housing Rate for Fall Semester
September 16, 2021-September 22, 2021 60% of Housing Rate for Fall Semester
On or after September 23, 2021 Full Forfeiture of Housing Rate for Fall Semester

The $200 will be refunded if you have no outstanding balances due. If you have any outstanding balances, the $200 will be credited to your account.

2021-22 Spring Semester

The University will retain as forfeiture:

On or before December 1, 2021  No Forfeiture
December 2, 2021-January 9, 2022 $200
January 10, 2022-January 16, 2022 10% of Housing Rate for Spring Semester
January 17, 2022-January 23, 2022 20% of Housing Rate for Spring Semester
January 24, 2022-January 30, 2022  40% of Housing Rate for Spring Semester
January 31, 2022-February 6, 2022 60% of Housing Rate for Spring Semester
On or after February 7, 2022 Full Forfeiture of Housing Rate for Spring Semester

Housing Cancellation Exemptions

As indicated in Section F, a Student living on-campus for the Fall Semester is obligated to reside on-campus for the remainder of the academic year, so long as he or she is duly enrolled at Bowling Green State University subject to the following exceptions for release:

  1. Academic withdrawal/dismissal from BGSU.
  2. Graduation from BGSU.
  3. Medical or Financial Hardship.
  4. Marriage before the end of the second week of Spring Semester classes.
  5. Participation in an academic program that requires the Student to commute to an off-site location beyond the approved commuting distance (50 miles) to Bowling Green, OH.  

Legitimate cancellations for the Spring Semester will be processed without penalty providing they are filed with the Office of Residence Life prior to the cut-off dates as outlined in the Forfeiture Schedule.
