IMPORTANT

If you filled out a request over the summer and it was not granted, you will need to fill out a new request form when it opens on Sept. 10. Please make sure you follow the information listed on this page. The processes are different during the school year. If you have questions, please reach out to our office at 419-372-2011 or reslife@bgsu.edu

Room Change Request

If you are a current BGSU student and would like to request a room change, you will need to follow the process outlined under the schedule tab that correlates with the semester you would like to make the change for.

Roommate troubles? Before you move out, reach out to your RA, Graduate Hall Director or Hall Director to see if they can help you. Moving in the middle of the year can be stressful and sometimes a seemingly unmanagable situation can be handled easily with a little help. We are here for you.

Room Change Requests During The 2019 Fall Semester

Opens | Sept. 10, 2019 at 9 a.m.
Closes | Nov. 15, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

Step 1

Contact the front desk of your desired building to find out room availability.

  • Greek Village, contact the Conklin Hall front desk.
  • University Apartments, contact the Falcon Heights front desk.
  • All other halls, contact the main front desk.
  • If you are interested in moving out of Centennial Hall or Falcon Heights, you need to find a substitute from a different building to fill your space. You may not move into another residence hall until a substitute is established.
    • If you live in one of these halls, let the front desk know you are interested in moving out so when a student calls, they can connect you with someone wanting to move into your hall.

Step 2

You can complete the Room Change Request Form anytime starting at 9 a.m.

Room Change Request Form

The form will not open until 9 a.m. on Sept. 10.

  • For weekend moves, the form has to be submitted by Thursday at 4:30 p.m. so the hall staff has time to process the necessary paperwork.
  • For room swaps, each student who is moving needs to fill out a room change request form. Requests will be denied if a request is not received by both students.

Step 3

The Residence Life Central Office reviews the room change request and you will be notified through your BGSU email. The email will state if your request is approved or denied.

If your request is approved, each hall staff member (Hall Director, Graduate Hall Director and Student Desk Manager) will be notified of the room change. The new roommate (if applicable) will also be notified via email.

Please note: Requests submitted after 4:30 p.m. will not be processed until the next business day and not over the weekend, therefore, the move date will need to be at least 2 days out, but no more than 7 days.

Step 4

Once the move is approved, the move can begin at 10 a.m. on the requested day and must be completed by midnight. You should print the approval email and bring it to the front desk of the hall they are moving in to/making the room change in.

Step 4

Once the move is approved, the move MUST take place between Dec. 9 - 13 (Finals Week). You should print the approval email and bring it to the front desk of the hall you are moving into or switching rooms in.

If the space the student is moving into is not currently vacant, you have the following options:

  1. Contact the current resident to see when they are checking out and check in after that date.
  2. Take your belongings home, check out of your current assignment and check in to your new assignment in January when you return to campus.
  3. Make alternative storage arrangements in another space (cannot be your current room) and move in to your new assignment when you return to campus in January.
  4. Make arrangements with the outgoing resident to leave your belongings in the room.

Be sure to properly check out of your current assignment with the front desk before you leave for break so you are not assessed any extra fees or charges. The halls re-open for spring semester at noon on Sunday, Jan. 26. Classes begin on Monday, Jan. 27.
