Housing During Breaks
When the University closes for breaks, the Office of Residence Life encourages students to visit family and friends – and to enjoy the holiday break.
You will be given a Break Closing Checklist by your Resident Advisor. This form should be completed and signed by all roommates prior to leaving for break. You also need to complete the following before leaving:
- Clean your room
- Empty all trash and take it to the dumpster
- Empty room recycling containers and take it to the larger recycling containers in the hall or lobbies
- Unplug all appliances - See information about refrigerators and fish tanks below.
- Leave the heat on (so the pipes will not freeze in the event of cold weather)
REFRIGERATORS AND FISH TANKS
Prior to leaving for the remote learning period and winter break, students must clean out and unplug their refrigerators and fish need to be relocated and the tank (if left behind) unplugged.
2020-2021 Closing Schedule for Remote Learning Period and Winter Break
- The residence halls officially close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020
- Our office will share details on our spring move-in dates and opening plans at a later date.
- Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021.
Need housing during the Remote Learning Period and/or Winter Break?
On-campus housing will be available to current residents with extenuating circumstances for a fee. If you are in need of on-campus housing during this time, which includes Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020 through Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, you will need to sign-up online through the Remote Learning Period & Winter Break 2020 Request Form.

APPLICATION CLOSES | Nov. 4, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.
FEE | $210 per week – Students can request to stay for a weekly rate. The weekly rates start on Mondays; students staying in the halls as of Monday for a given week will be billed to their Bursar account for the entire week. After billing is applied to a student's account for a given week, it is no longer refundable and the student is obligated to pay the balance. The week including Nov. 26, 27, 28, and & 29 will be billed at a reduced rate of $120 due to the shorter week during break.
PLEASE NOTE: You may be assigned to temporary housing, meaning you will not be assigned to your current room or hall. If this occurs, you will not be assigned a space that someone is currently living in, it will be a vacant room that is available.
You will be notified of your approval by Nov. 13 along with other instructions.

For dining options on campus, Dunkin Donuts (6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily starting Nov. 28) and Starbucks (8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday starting Nov. 30) will be open regularly throughout the remote learning period and winter break (with the exception of December 24, 25, and January 1).
