2022 R3 Information and Application

The Reimagining Rural Regions (R3) Program provides expertise and capacity to assist rural communities in a community-focused placemaking process to identify assets that could be reimagined to improve the quality of life for residents and aid in the retention and attraction of talent. Communities are chosen through a competitive application process. The program is funded through a grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) and a cooperative agreement through USDA Rural Development’s Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge. The program is provided at no cost to communities selected to participate.
The BGSU Center for Regional Development (CRD) is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 Cohort of R3 Communities. In the inaugural year of the program, 3 communities were chosen to collaborate with our teams in community planning and engagement processes with the goal of identifying and implementing placemaking opportunities and projects. This summer, those projects will be implemented by BGSU students in Gibsonburg, Marysville, and Van Wert.
For the second cohort of communities, the convening of steering committees and start of planning processes will begin in Summer 2022. The chosen communities will work with CRD staff Summer 2022 through Summer 2023.
