April 2020 Press Release

Safe Communities announced today that there have been two fatal crashes in Wood County this year compared to three at this time last year.

April is known as Distracted Driving Awareness Month in Ohio. With COVID-19 this year, the official designation this year for April has been postponed - but that doesn't mean that distracted driving is still not an issue in our county.

During 2019, there were 188 distracted driving crashes in Wood County. Two of the crashes resulted in fatalities and three involved serious incapacitating injuries. This preventable act - 100% preventable - could have saved the lives of two individuals.  Let's vow to reduce one act of Distracted Driving this week - and then another next week - and so on!! Now is the time - our goal is to reduce distracted driving in Wood County by 25% in 2020.

Let’s strive for zero fatal crashes in 2020!
