Sheila J. Roberts

Sheila J. Roberts currently serves as Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, Acting at Bowling Green State University. Dr. Roberts’ 23-plus years of experience as a faculty member and administrator at BGSU have prepared her to work with faculty and staff to develop and implement policies that will enhance the students’ educational experience.

Prior to coming to BGSU, Dr. Sheila Roberts earned her B.S. in geological engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and both her M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. After graduation, Sheila spent two years as a postdoctoral scientist at Louisiana State University, studying petroleum migration along fault zones in the Gulf of Mexico.

Dr. Roberts started her BGSU career in the Department of Geology in the fall of 1994, where she taught at both the undergraduate and graduate level and supervised student research in groundwater hydrogeology and environmental geochemistry. During her time at BGSU, she has served the university in a variety of positions, including Graduate Coordinator for the Department of Geology and the School of Earth, Environment and Society (2001-2007 and 2016-2017), Chair of the Department of Geology (2007-2012), Acting Director of the School of Earth, Environment and Society (2012-2013), and Interim Associate Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences (2013-2014). In 2017, she was named the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, Research, and Analytics in the College of Arts and Sciences.

In addition to her administrative experience, Dr. Roberts has served multiple terms on a number of college and university committees, including Graduate Council, Undergraduate Council, the BG Perspective Committee, and the Academic Honesty Committee. In 2016, she attended the Higher Education Resource Services Institute (HERS) and the following year participated in the President’s Executive Leadership Program.

Dr. Roberts’ experience at BGSU, both as an educator and an administrator, has taught her the importance of working with people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives to solve problems and implement policy that improves the educational environment for both students and faculty at BGSU.
