Madeline's Story

The Sidney A. Ribeau President’s Leadership Academy (PLA) has helped me to broaden my views as a leader and scholar. I have been given many opportunities through this program that have allowed me to grow as a person and learn how to become a better servant leader. If not for PLA, I would not be who I am today.

Since the beginning of my time as a scholar in the 2014 cohort, I have learned many things about myself and my cohort. Learning our strengths and values has helped us become more aware about how we can succeed individually and as a cohort. Personally, the most significant thing that the PLA has taught me is who I am. I have learned so much about myself including my values, my strengths, and my passions. The PLA has helped me dig a little deeper to find out why I do the things I do.

As a freshman on campus, the PLA has familiarized me and my fellow cohort members with the many useful resources found at BGSU, but the support given is one of the most influential aspects of PLA. The PLA offers a wide range of support systems for the scholars. These include having 1-on-1 meetings with an advisor, interacting with a PAL mentor, and providing eighty other supportive scholars from other cohorts. Another major support system is the bonds and relationships made within each cohort. No matter what, I know that I can trust and rely on my fellow cohort members. They are not only my cohort members, but also my best friends. I know that throughout the entire PLA, help and support will always be there for me when I need it.

I am blessed to be a part of this extraordinary organization. The PLA has helped me form a home and PLAmily at BGSU. I will forever be thankful for being a part of the Sidney A Ribeau President’s Leadership Academy.
