CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team defeated Northern Illinois University, 71-67, on Friday (March 15) night in the MAC Tournament Semifinals. The ballgame was played inside Quicken Loans Arena. With the win, BGSU advances to the MAC Championship Game for just the fourth time in school history.

Prior to this season, the Falcons last appeared in the MAC Championship Game in 2002. Bowling Green has never won the MAC Tournament. The Falcons will play nationally-ranked and top-seeded Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2 for a trip to the NCAA Tournament. BGSU last qualified for the MAC Tournament in 1968.

After storming out to a 46-23 halftime lead, Northern Illinois climbed all the way back to tie the game in the second half. With the score tied at 58-58 with 3:29 to go, the Falcons, in a stretch that would decide the game, went on a 7-0 run over the next 1:09 to take a 65-58.

The game-defining stretch featured two Dylan Frye free throws, a Justin Turner jumper, and a Turner steal that turned into a fast-break triple from Frye. NIU cut the lead down to three points on two separation occasions, but in both instances, Frye free throws regained a multiple-possession cushion.

Frye had another huge night for the Falcons, tying his season high with 25 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Daeqwon Plowden collected eight rebounds for the second-straight game, while also adding 12 points. Justin Turner finished with 14 points and two assists.

Demajeo Wiggins added eight points and four rebounds. Every other Falcon that played – Caleb Fields (3), Jeffrey Uju (3), Michael Laster (2), and Marlon Sierra (2) – entered the scoring column.

COACH HUGER QUOTE
"All credit goes to Northern. They did a very good job of fighting. They fought hard and they gave themselves a chance to win. We did a very good job of sticking together and we fought, we fought and got some stops when we needed to get them at the end. We were able to string together a couple consecutive stops and that's when we went on our run to get up seven."
