BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University hockey team is returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 29 years! The Falcons received an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Tournament, announced by the NCAA on Sunday (March 24) evening. It is the first bid the program has received to the tournament since the 1989-90 season.

The Falcons will enter the NCAA Tournament as a No. 4 seed, and will play the No. 1 seeded Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the Midwest Regional on Saturday, March 30, at 4 PM in the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

BGSU and Minnesota-Duluth have history in the NCAA Tournament as the Falcons defeated the Bulldogs 5-4 in four overtimes to win the 1984 National Championship.

The Falcons earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament following a 25-10-5 season in which Bowling Green finished third in the WCHA regular season and advanced to the WCHA Championship Game. The Falcons swept Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan before falling to top-seeded Minnesota State in overtime Saturday evening, 3-2.

BGSU went 3-1-1 against other teams in the NCAA Tournament, going 2-1 against Minnesota State and 1-0-1 against Ohio State. Minnesota State earned a No. 1 seed and Ohio State picked up a No. 3 seed for the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

During the season, head coach Chris Bergeron picked up his 150th career win with the Falcons and he moved into second place in school history in wins with 171. The Falcons have won at least 20 games in five consecutive years with Bergeron at the helm. BGSU's 25 wins this year are the most under Bergeron and the most since the 1995-96 team won 26 games.

More information will follow in the coming days about BGSU's trip to the NCAA Tournament. Follow BGSUFalcons.com for details and information.

BGSU season ticket holders were sent a survey via e-mail Sunday morning regarding interest in postseason tickets. BGSU Athletics requests those surveys to be completed by 10 am Monday morning for an opportunity to purchase tickets through the BGSU Ticket Office. Those who did not receive a survey must call the BGSU Ticket Office at 419-372-0000 by 10 am Monday if interested in purchasing tickets.

Based on limited supply, demand from season ticket holders is expected to sell out the BGSU ticket block. Non-season ticket holders interested in purchasing tickets for the Falcons' NCAA Tournament run are asked to visit PPLCenter.com to purchase directly through the arena.
