Casagrande to Shadow Arsenal FC of the Premier League

Wed, Feb, 01 | Women's Soccer

After spending last summer completing a summer internship with EXOS performance training center, Ivi Casagrande of the Bowling Green women's soccer program utilized her connections and will spend this summer in Europe working with various soccer clubs, most notably the Arsenal Football Club of the Premier League.

Sports performance graduate assistant Casagrande will spend July 3-9 and 24-30 with the Arsenal in London, England, in which she will be shadowing the sports performance program. In that time, the Arsenal will be preparing for its preseason tours in Australia and China.

"I used connections I made at EXOS, including the Arsenal's physical therapist and players Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Carl Jenkinson," Casagrande said of opening up the summer opportunity. "I really love picking people's brains by asking lots of questions and keeping contact with them. I wanted to make the most of my time there, and asked if I could shadow."

Between her two weeks with the Arsenal, Casagrande will work with up to four different women's soccer clubs, including Switzerland's FC Basel U-15 to U-21 programs, as well as Germany's VfL Sindelfingen. Although Casagrande will mostly shadow with the sports science staff, she also received an invitation to practice with the German women's team.

Casagrande is a native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil and the experience will be her first European and professional sport work experience. Last summer, Casagrande worked with the EXOS sports performance training program and capitalized on her time in Los Angeles, Calif. to expand her professional network.

"If you have a passion for something, be proactive to pick people's brain," Casagrande said of making connections. "I really like talking with other people about all the knowledge and opportunities there may be. It can open doors in the future if you keep building those connections and keep working hard."

Casagrande is working on completing her master's degree at BGSU in Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology and aims to work in sports performance in a professional level after graduation.
