FitzGerald named VP for legal affairs
BOWLING GREEN, O.—Sean FitzGerald, Bowling Green State University’s general counsel, has been appointed vice president for legal affairs and government relations.
In his new role, FitzGerald will continue to serve as the University’s general counsel.. He will now also direct the functions of the Office of Equity and Diversity and governmental affairs for the University at the local, state and federal levels.
“Sean has a proven track record in helping us address a wide-range of challenges and he is well prepared take on these new responsibilities,” BGSU President Carol Cartwright said. “His appointment illustrates our commitment to equity and diversity and the importance of governmental affairs in our long-term success."
FitzGerald joined BGSU in 2008 as a special assistant to the president after serving as associate vice president and associate general counsel for Wayne State University in Detroit. He was named general counsel at BGSU in 2009 upon his admission to the Ohio Bar.
He graduated with honors from the University of Detroit (now Detroit-Mercy) School of Law and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.
He is a member of the State Bar of Ohio, the State Bar of Michigan, and is admitted to practice before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
