New Student Orientation selects dynamic groups of students each year to assist with SOAR and Fall Welcome. Over the course of their 10 month experience, the Orientation Team will connect with over 3,600 first-year students and 6,000 parents, family members, and guests.
ORIENTATION TEAM LEADERS
The Orientation Team Leaders (OTLs) are returning staff members who served as Orientation Leaders during SOAR 2019. OTLs help with the recruitment and selection of Orientation Leaders and play a critical role in the training of the selected team. Serving as mentors throughout SOAR and Opening Weekend, the OTLs aid greatly in the success of our programs.
The Orientation Leaders (OLs) are a select group of dynamic students with a variety of skill sets. Throughout SOAR, OLs dedicate themselves to first-year and transfer students in their transition to BGSU. During Fall Welcome, OLs serve as a mentor to a group of Fall Welcome Leaders, or FaWLs (formerly known as OWGLs). Through the rigorous training and effective execution of their duties, Orientation Leaders leave their experience more confident and capable leaders. Orientation Leaders are selected the November prior to the summer in which they serve and complete training throughout the spring semester.
