Alum Sears wins National Competition

Brian Sears (MM 2016) won first prize in the highly competitive 2018 ASCAP/SEAMUS Student Commission competition, co-sponsored by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, and the Society for ElectroAcoustic Music in the United States. Sears’s winning piece Dreams Unwind for piano and live electronics was composed during his studies at BGSU. As part of the prize, Sears will compose a new piece that will premiere at the 2019 Society for ElectroAcoustic Music in the United States National Conference, taking place March 2019 at Berklee College of Music (Boston.) The new work will be also published on the SEAMUS CD series, and he will receive a monetary prize. Sears is currently pursuing doctoral studies at Brandeis University.
