Canvas Quizzes

Canvas has a standard option called Quizzes that can be used for any quiz, test, or exam in your course. By default, you have several tools to secure these quizzes to prevent student cheating.

Standard Steps to Secure a Canvas Quiz

Respondus Lockdown Browser

In addition to the basic tools within Canvas, BGSU has access to a secondary tool to secure quizzes from Respondus. Lockdown Browser requires your students to install a special browser that prevents them from using their computer for anything other than taking the quiz. Lockdown Monitor has the same functions as Lockdown Browser, but also requires the student to have a web camera on and recording while they take the exam.

We suggest creating a practice quiz for your students to use to test their computer and setup before their first actual quiz using Respondus. Keep in mind, personal Chromebooks, iPhones, and Android phones will not be able to access quizzes created requiring either Respondus product.

*ITS does not recommend the use of Chromebooks because they are not compatible with many academic and enterprise applications.
