Service Spotlight - ITS Application Team supports Habitat, Salvation Army, more

The ITS Application team had another busy quarter, focusing on fundraising, service projects and adding in some holiday cheer!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the ITS Service Committee hosted the 6th Annual Tough Enough to Wear Pink week to raise funds in support of local woman in need of care.  The week included treats, silent auctions, dress down days and more… all with the goal of raising money for the Cancer Support Fund within the Maurer Family Cancer Care Center of Wood County Hospital.  This year, $570.00 was raised and donated to the mammograms and patient care fund, providing support to those who are unable to afford treatment.

The ITS Application Service Committee also collaborated with the Wood County Habitat for Humanity by offering their painting services for the Bowling Green Habitat build.  Two teams of 10 painters worked on finish interior painting for the local three-bedroom home build.  The teams were able to completely prime the entire home, finished painting the ceiling and completed ½ of the final color paint to the home in just one day.  The Sentinel-Tribune reported on these builds, saying that the Habitat for Humanity of Wood County has built 37 homes, however, this is the first one in Bowling Green!

Each month, ITS supports the FUMC food bank by assisting with the organization and distribution of food to those in need.  In December, BGSU Athletics joined the team and a total of 29 BGSU volunteers showed up to help those in need!  Both teams have committed to their continued support and will provide assistance to the FUMC food bank throughout the year.

Following last year’s tradition, the ITS Application team collaborated with the Salvation Army by joining the Adopt-A-Family program.  Through this program, sponsoring groups are given the name of a family in need within the Greater Toledo area to assist at Christmas.  Sponsors provide a number of items for the families, including gifts and food.  This year, the team sponsored a family of 7 by providing 33 gifts and a massive amount of food.  The gifts and food were provided ahead of Christmas to a very surprised and grateful family!

A number of events and programs are planned throughout 2019 as well, including an Earth Week event, Blood Drive and much more.  Be on the lookout for ways to support the team, or contact Adam Petrea ( for more information.
