BGSU Professional Licensure Disclosures by Programs
All programs leading to professional licensure, certification and/or endorsement, regardless of modality, are required to provide general (public) and direct (individual) disclosures to students. This rule applies to educational programs that are either:
· Designed to meet education requirements for a specific professional license or state certification that is required for employment in an occupation
· Advertised as meeting such requirements
Currently, Bowling Green State University programs leading to professional licensure, certification and/or endorsement satisfy the educational requirements for those credentials set forth by the State of Ohio. The programs listed on this page are designed to prepare students to sit for applicable licensure or certification examination in Ohio.
If you plan to pursue licensure or certification in a state other than Ohio, please review state educational requirements for licensure or certification as listed in the embedded tables. National accreditation does not necessarily mean that there are not additional state level requirements or non-educational requirements to fulfil towards licensure/certification eligibility in any given state.
BGSU has evaluated all of its professional licensure/certification programs. Each program has been assigned one of the following disclosure statuses:
· Does meet educational requirements
· Does Not meet educational requirements
· Not Determined (either not determined or there are no licensure regulations in that state/territory)
To enroll in a licensure program that has been designated as "Does Not" or "Not Determined", students who plan on taking one or more online courses must go through the university's attestation process and attest to seek employment in a state where BGSU’s program meets the educational requirements for that licensure area.
Students should keep in mind that relocating to another state while studying at BGSU could impact whether they can meet the licensure eligibility requirements of that state. If you are a student who is considering relocating, you should check with the licensure board of the new state for licensure eligibility requirements.
BGSU has done its due diligence in reviewing licensure/certification academic requirements from Ohio and other states. However, as with all professional licensure programs, the state requirements can change at any time and without notice. Please contact the respective state licensing boards for additional information, including information on non-academic requirements as needed. Keep in mind rules and requirements may change at any time, so check with your state/jurisdiction for the most updated information.

Dietetics (Bachelor's Degree)
- Fulfills professional licensure requirements for all states except Arizona, California, Colorado, Virginia and Michigan.
The BGSU dietetics bachelor’s degree program is your first step to becoming a registered dietitian. You’ll learn about the science of food and its role in preventing and treating disease and maintaining health. Laboratory and hands-on experiences are an integral part of our science-based curriculum. To become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RND), you must pursue a master’s degree, complete an accredited dietetics internship and pass the national registration examination.
Dietetic Internship Program - Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
- Fulfills professional licensure requirements for all states except Arizona, California, Colorado, Virginia and Michigan.
BGSU offers an accredited on-campus dietetic internship as well as an accredited distance dietetic internship. The BGSU Internship Program in Nutrition and Dietetics provides a pathway to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Those seeking eligibility for the RDN exam will be required to have completed the minimum of a graduate degree granted by a US Department of Education accredited institution or foreign equivalent, in addition to the supervised practice experience to be eligible for the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) credentialing exam.
While state interpretations of statutes may vary, it is ACEND's considered opinion that the program meets the educational requirements for dietetics licensure and certification in all states. However, completing an ACEND-accredited academic program alone does not qualify an individual for licensure or certification as a dietitian in any state. Individuals should review their state's licensing statutes and regulations to understand the specific requirements, including supervised practice and examinations, needed to obtain a dietetics license. For the most current licensure or certification changes or updates, students should consult the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or the Academic of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Please be aware that requirements for licensure, certification and/or endorsement eligibility vary greatly from one profession to another and from state to state and may also change or be updated periodically from state to state. It is important for students to routinely check for any changes in licensing laws. Long-Term Care (LTC) Administration is a special option available for students majoring in Gerontology. The program combines a major in gerontology with coursework in areas such as accounting, economics, and management. This specialization prepares students to sit for both the state (Ohio) and federal nursing home administrator’s licensure examinations. as required by the state of Ohio's Board of Executives of Long-Term Care Services and Support (BELTSS) and/or our accrediting body, the National Association of Long-Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB). Undergraduat and graduate tudents must complete a long-term care practicum of a minimum of 1,000 hours experience in an approved skilled nursing facility under the supervision of an Ohio licensed nursing home administrator who has been practicing for at least two years. The Gerontology Program also offers the long-term care (LTC) specialization for the Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Gerontology (MSIG) program online via eCampus. Both the Bachelor's Degree and Graduate Online Degree in long-term care administration specialization are accredited by the National Association of Long-Term Care Administrator Board (NAB).
· Our programs are HSE accredited (Health Services Executive) which means our students are eligible to take all LOS (lines of service federal exams) that make them eligible for testing for Nursing Home Administrator, Assisted Living, Home and Community Based Services.
· All 50 states require that NHA’s take a federal exam. Most states have an additional state exam as well.
· There is a federal credential for HSE Health Services Executive and several states have adopted a specific HSE license (Ohio is one of them).
· 28 states accept students from HSE accredited universities as eligible to sit for all lines of service exams. Once licensed there is also increased portability for reciprocity.
· 22 states require RC/AL or residential care/Assisted Living administrators be licensed.
· 2 states require HCBS (Home and Community Based Services, i.e., home health and hospice) Administrators to be licensed.

The BGSU Bachelor of Science program in medical laboratory science (MLS) (on campus or online) prepares students for a critical role in our healthcare system. Medical laboratory scientists perform hundreds of lab tests that help physicians diagnose and manage disease. They apply scientific knowledge and clinical applications to analyze blood, body fluid and tissue samples. Students completing the program will be eligible to sit for the MLS certification examination of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) need to be board certified at most clinical sites; rarely will someone not certified be hired. Licensure is required for a few states, but not nationwide or in Ohio. BGSU's Medical Laboratory Science program is accreditated by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

Radiologic Technologists provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients of all ages in a wide variety of clinical settings. BGSU's Radiologic Technology program prepares individuals as radiographers educated through academic courses and clinical education. Graduates will be eligible for examination by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Graduates must satisfy degree requirements as stipulated by BGSU for associate degrees. Graduates must also satisfy all requirements of the Ohio Department of Health, Radiologic Licensure division, to obtain a license to practice in Ohio. Radiologic technology practice varies based upon individual State’s law. The Radiologic Science program is accredited by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART).
In some states, you must obtain a state license before you can work as a radiologic technologist there. That differs from ARRT certification and registration. If you want to become certified and registered with ARRT, you must meet our requirements and apply to ARRT. If you want to obtain a state license, you must meet the individual state’s requirements and apply directly to that state. More than 75% of states have licensing laws covering the practice of radiologic technology. In those states, you must obtain a state license before you can work as a radiologic technologist. In addition, many states use ARRT exam scores and/or credentials when making licensing decisions. In other words, some—but not all—states require you to be certified and registered through ARRT before you can obtain a state license.
