Human Resources Top 10 Accomplishments

The Office of Human Resources team, in accordance with its mission, strives to accomplish goals in alignment with the BGSU strategic plan.   

During the 2016 - 2017 academic year, we were able to accomplish several of our internal goals and initiatives.  We are very proud of our accomplishments and will continue to work towards goals that will meet the needs of the University.   

HR developed a new and enhanced website to provide a more user-friendly environment.  This assists employees with finding all the available information in a format for easier navigation.

HR assumed responsibility and oversight for the compliance programming and Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) and the Equal Opportunity (EEO) nondiscrimination/harassment laws and regulations.  With this new responsibility also came the Equity oversight for the hiring practices at BGSU in support of the AAP.

Human Resources and Payroll transitioned administrative staff affected by the new overtime guidelines under the Department of Labor (DOL) from monthly pay cycles to biweekly pay cycles; strategically planned, organized and executed to ensure compliance.

Human Resources designed and conducted (15+) professional development training courses, both supervisory and non-supervisory, for both Main Campus and the Firelands Campus.  Trainings included the following:

Human Resources transitioned the annual compliance training for Anti-Harassment and Campus SaVe from LawRoom to Edurisk with a 98% completion rate.

HR transitioned the recruitment process for full-time Faculty positions into HireTouch, our online applicant tracking software.  All full-time positions are now posted centrally using one standard system for efficiency and reporting.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we strive to cast a broad net to reach the most applicants.  Our new posting procedure for staff positions ensures that we are:

  • Reaching an increased volume of potential applicants,
  • Enhancing the volume of postings in areas of underserved populations as outlined in the Affirmative Action Plan, while
  • Decreasing recruitment costs for the University.

The contract process for Fall and Spring Adjunct Faculty contracts was changed to an electronic process within OnBase.  This is a much smoother process, more efficient for processing, and accessible online for quicker access.

Human Resources hosted the 5th Annual Compliance Day Training on June 1, 2017.  This year the training was provided for 4.5 CLE's for legal certification credits.

The Affordable Care Act states that employers must offer healthcare coverage to a minimum of 95% of all employees deemed full-time by the ACA (average of 30 or more worked hours per week).  Fines for being noncompliant can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

For both 2015 and 2016, the compliance rate for BGSU has been in excess of 98%.  For 2017 to date - we are currently at 99% compliant.
