Q. What are the requirements for the Hoskins Global Scholars Program?

A. Requirements include:

  • Being a full-time student in good standing. Preference given to sophomores, juniors, or seniors (students should return to campus after the international experience). 
  • GPA minimum of 3.2 and must be a member of the Honors College
  • Submitting a proposal for an international experience of at least 3-4 weeks, during the Winter of Summer Semester.
  • Preference given to non-traditional destinations abroad
  • Preference for little or no previous study abroad experience

Q. How do I apply for this scholarship?

Q. What is the deadline for the scholarship?

A. March 1st

Q. Can I use an existing study abroad program for this scholarship?

A. Students should design an experience that is original and not an existing study abroad opportunity.

Q. Does this scholarship expire?

A. You must use this scholarship during a summer or winter session. 

Q. When will I receive the scholarship funds if I am a successful applicant? 

A. The scholarship will be released to your student account on the first dat of the term during which you choose to depart for the experience. 

Q. I have studied abroad before. Can I still apply for this scholarship?

A. Yes, you can still apply; preference is given to students with little to no study abroad experience.

Q. When can I use this scholarship?

A. The scholarship can be used for the Summer term. 

Q. How many awards will be given each year?

A. Each year 3 awards of up to $5,000 each will be awarded

Q. What can the scholarship be used for?

A. The funds can be used for things such as travel costs, housing, local transportation, food, and other expenses related to the international experience. 

Q. What happens after I submit my application?

A. After the application period closes, a committee will review applications and select finalists to interview. The final recipients will be selected from those interviewed.

Q. Are there any requirements of students after they return from their Hoskins Global Scholars experience? 

A. After returning, scholars will publically present to the university community about their experience. Additionally, if available, scholars will assist in conducting information sessions for students who are considering applying for future Hoskins Global Scholars Program application cycles.
