Coming from a sports background in high school and college, Dr. Thurmond was drawn to the active nature of being a physical therapist, as well as the opportunity to utilize both mental and physical skills. She spent the first 11 years of her career in outpatient orthopedics, specializing in the treatment of patients with neck and back pain. She transitioned to full-time academics in 2013, teaching first-year DPT orthopedic content, then becoming director of curriculum for the DPT program. In 2020, she became the program director for the developing hybrid, accelerated DPT program at BGSU.
