GRE/GMAT Waiver FAQS

BGSU is temporarily waiving GRE and GMAT requirements for all master's degree and graduate certificate programs through spring 2024.

Doctoral applicants should connect with the program directly to learn more about how the waiver may impact their test score requirements.  

Graduate application fees for new domestic applicants are also being waived through fall 2022.

Due to the global impact of the novel coronavirus, BGSU is waiving the GRE and GMAT test requirements to make the application process easier for students wanting to pursue graduate education.

GRE/GMAT: The test requirement for the GRE/GMAT has been waived for all graduate certificates and master’s degree programs through spring 2024. Doctoral applicants should connect with the program directly to learn more about how the waiver may impact their test score requirements.

TOEFL/IELTS: The language proficiency requirement has not been waived, but BGSU will accept the Duolingo English Test through summer 2024.

OAE/PRAXIS: The test requirement for the OAE/PRAXIS has been waived for most graduate certificates and master’s degree programs requiring those exams through spring 2024.

This test waiver applies to all domestic and international applicants seeking admission graduate certificate and master’s degree programs through spring 2024.  

No. Current applications will have the test requirement waived. Applicants who have completed the GRE/GMAT are still encouraged to provide scores, as they could be beneficial during the application review process.

Yes. If submitted, GRE/GMAT test scores will be taken into consideration as part of our holistic review process. However, if you choose not to submit them, you will not be penalized and will be considered for admission just the same as students who do submit scores.  

This change will have no negative affect on your status. If this change benefits your application, you will be contacted by the Office of Graduate Admission.  

Online Courses: We offer many graduate courses online that you can take now before enrolling in coursework on campus. For more information, contact our office.

Admission Deferral: You can choose to defer your graduate studies for up to one year with the approval of your academic department. This is a good option if you would like to enroll in a program that does not offer online courses. If you are interested in an admission deferral, please email the Office of Graduate Admission gradapply@bgsu.edu.
