Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement

The BGSU Early Childhood Education 4-5 Generalist Endorsement (ECE) program is a high-quality program of study that prepares you to teach all subject areas in grades 4 and 5.

The ECE endorsement consists of five classes (15 credit hours). The courses may be taken at the undergraduate or the graduate level. For those taking the courses at the graduate level, a BGSU Certificate may be earned through the Graduate College. The  4/5 endorsement courses are:

Upper Elementary Social Studies Instruction (June 12-July 7, 2023)

• EDTL 4501/5501
Upper Elementary Math Instruction (May 15-June 9, 2023)

• EDTL 4502/5502
Upper Elementary Science Instruction (June 12-July 7, 2023

• EDTL 4503/5503
Upper Elementary Language Arts Instruction (May 15-June 9, 2023)


• HDFS 4505/5505 
Introductory Field Experiences Grades 4 & 5 (April 3- June 2, 2023)


• HDFS 4504/5504  
Development and Learning in Children 8-12 (May 15-August 4, 2023)   

Eligibility:

• Licensed Early Childhood Education professionals
• Teacher candidates who are currently enrolled as juniors in a teacher preparation program leading to early childhood licensure.

Licensure Examinations:

Once coursework is finished, candidates must also pass the Ohio Assessment for Educators Elementary Education Test (Subtest I 018) and (Subtest II 019).

  • To Obtain the Endorsement:
    • Once course requirements are complete, candidates will need to submit the following to the EDHD Office of Accreditation and Licensure:
      • An Ohio Department of Education Licensure Application
      • Associated fees
      • An official transcript of final grades
      • An official score report confirming passage of the Ohio Assessment for Educators Elementary Education Test (Subtest I 018) and (Subtest II 019).
