Prior to joining the faculty at BGSU, Dr. DuFresne worked as a licensed professional counselor at a community mental health clinic and in a residential setting with individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities in Ohio. Her specialty areas are working with individuals who are diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness, particularly individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Dr. DuFresne volunteers in the local community on a committee that plans a walk to raise money to support the families of victims of domestic homicide.
Dr. DuFresne is the president-elect of the Ohio Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (OACES) and a member of the Ohio Counseling Associations (OCA) professional development committee. She is also an active member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the American Counseling Association (ACA), the North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (NCACES) and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES).
Dr. DuFresne’s research interests are in the area of end-of-life counseling and rational suicide, counselor preparation, and use of social media by counselors, supervisors and counselor educators.
