Lab Services

Overview

The Exercise Physiology Laboratory at Bowling Green State University houses a number of instruments to assess fitness and an individual’s acute and chronic response to exercise. The laboratory has the ability to measure cardiopulmonary fitness, anaerobic power, energy expenditure, various measures of blood biochemistry, and body composition.

Exercise Science Lab Services

A method of analyzing body fat percentage using calipers to measure the thickness of subcutaneous adipose tissue.

Cost

  • Community Member: $20
  • BGSU faculty, staff, or alumni: $15
  • Current BGSU student: $10

A test in which the rate of flow of small electrical impulses through muscle and adipose tissue is used to estimate body fat percentage.

Cost

  • Community member: $20
  • BGSU faculty, staff, or alumni: $15
  • Current BGSU student: $10

A test which uses air displacement plethysmography and a highly calibrated scale to determine body composition.

Cost

  • Community member: $50
  • BGSU faculty, staff, or alumni: $40
  • Current BGSU student: $20

A continuous graded treadmill exercise test designed to measure the maximal amount of oxygen an individual utilizes during maximal exercise. This test is completed to determine an individual’s level of cardiorespiratory fitness.

Cost

  • Community member: $100
  • BGSU faculty, staff, or alumni: $75
  • Current BGSU student: $50

A graded treadmill exercise test designed to measure aerobic fitness, however, the protocol is discontinuous. Individuals will complete a graded exercise test interspersed with periods of seated rest.

Cost

  • Community member: $120
  • BGSU faculty, staff, or alumni: $95
  • Current BGSU student: $70

A test designed to measure the maximal steady-state effort an individual can sustain without an exponential rise in blood lactate.

Cost

  • Community member: $100
  • BGSU faculty, staff, or alumni: $75
  • Current BGSU student: $50

A comprehensive fitness assessment which includes resting blood pressure, height, weight, body mass index, body composition, Ebbeling walking test, push-ups, curl-ups, grip strength, and flexibility.

Cost

  • Community member: $50
  • BGSU faculty, staff, or alumni: $40
  • Current BGSU student: $25

An athlete assessment package that includes a body composition test via BodPod, a continuous VO2max test, and a lactate threshold test.

Cost

  • Community member: $230
  • BGSU faculty, staff, or alumni: $175
  • Current BGSU student: $90

An athlete assessment package that includes a body composition test via BodPod, a discontinuous VO2max test, and a lactate threshold test.

Cost
