Specialist in Educational Administration (Post-Grad, Blended)

The Specialist Degree in Educational Administration is a program designed for practicing educators who already hold a master’s degree and are interested in pursuing a career in school administration and supervision, primarily for coursework toward Ohio Administration Licensure. The program of study is spread over courses in educational administration, professional education outside the area of educational administration, and research methods and educational statistics.

Applicants must have a master’s degree for admission into the Ed.S. program.

Benefits Include:

  • Ed.S. and licensure earned within two to four years (dependent upon applicability of prior master’s coursework)
  • Blended degree program (predominantly online with a few regularly scheduled face-to-face evening sessions)
  • ElCCC Standard-Based Program
  • UCEA Membership
  • Expertise of BGSU Faculty and area K-12 Administrators

Students are required to complete a minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate work beyond the master’s degree including all specific requirements for the degree and for certification where relevant. Specific requirements include:

  • Education Courses: EDAS 6210, EDAS 6250, EDTL 6110, EDFI 6710, EDFI 6410, EDFI 6420 or their equivalents are required. These courses may be completed either in conjunction with the master’s degree or as part of the post-master’s work.
  • Practicum or Field Service Experience: This phase of the program must be appropriate to the area of specialization.
  • Students should have a tentative degree program on file early in the Ed. S. program. Students must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in all graduate work to be eligible for the degree.

Comprehensive Examination
In addition to the regular course examinations, students are required to pass a comprehensive examination during the final period of registration for course work.

Completion of Work
Candidates must complete all requirements for the Ed. S. degree within six years of the date of initial enrollment in the degree program. Time served in the armed forces or on approved leave of absence is exempt from this time limitation.

**Students interested in the Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Supervision and/or district-level administrative licensure participate in the Superintendent Cohort Leadership Academy (SCLA).

Applicants must have at least one year of teaching experience in a school setting. Prospective students without teaching experience may be considered; however, a rationale will need to be provided by the student as to why we should consider their application, and the faculty committee will also interview the prospective student.
