Advisor Resources

Student organization advisors play a critical role in the success of our clubs and organizations. An advisor is more than just a signatory power, but an integral part of the organization itself. In the educational institution, an advisor is a partner and a mentor in the co-curricular learning process; serving as a guide and mentor to the student members. The advisor provides a consistency from year-to-year for an organization as a source of institutional knowledge, provider of reasonable and sound advisement, and as a responsible agent of the University for the organization activities. Within the context of the broader mission and policies of the University, the advisor shall share insights and directions that allow student organizations to further their objectives and enhance the meaningfulness or organization membership.

Specific responsibilities of the advisor shall be to:

  • Attend meetings
  • Provide guidance to officers, especially the executive board
  • Oversee all financial transactions
  • Provide consultation concerning membership selection procedures and responsibilities
  • Maintain an awareness of the activities and programs sponsored by the student organization
  • Meet with leaders and officers to discuss upcoming meetings and programs, long range plans, goals, and problem solving
  • Assist with officer transition and new officer training
