Richard A. Lenhart Activities Scholarship

Richard A. Lenhart was a University administrator who spent more than 25 years working in student activities and programming before his death in 1984. At the time of his death, Lenhart was the associate dean of students and responsible for coordinating the activities of almost every student organization on campus. He founded and for many years coordinated the University’s first comprehensive pre-registration program for incoming freshmen. He was the founder of Delta Phi Beta honor society and served on the national committee of the Association of College Unions International. At the time of his death, he was the only person to have won USG’s William T. Jerome Award twice. Please see website for scholarship amount and eligibility criteria.

Gerald Saddlemire Scholarship

When the late Gerald Saddlemire, Professor Emeritus of College Student Personnel retired on January 1, 1990, a scholarship was established to acknowledge his professional career accomplishments. A former Dean of Students with the State University of New York, Dr. Saddlemire was appointed chair of the College Student Personnel Department of Bowling Green State University on June 1, 1969. This department focuses its teaching and research on the total development of college students both in and out of the classroom. During his tenure as chair of the department, over seven hundred master’s degree graduates were prepared for positions in Student Affairs administration. Dr. Saddlemire also served as Interim Dean of the College of Education and Allied Professionals at BGSU. Please see website for scholarship amount and eligibility criteria.

SICSIC Scholarship

The campus spirit organization, SICSIC, is the oldest continually active student group on campus. It is also the smallest group on campus, initiating only two new members each year. Past members of SICSIC, many of whom are leaders in their respective professions, have made it possible through financial contributions to establish an annual scholarship. The deadline was Sunday, February 14 at 11:59 pm. Strength in Sisterhood Scholarship

The Strength in Sisterhood Scholarship was established to recognize Rebekah Blakkolb, Christina Goyett and Sarah Hammond, students at Bowling Green State University who were killed in a tragic traffic accident on March 2, 2012. All three were students in the College of Education and Human Development and members of Alpha Xi Delta Women’s Fraternity. The Scholarship also recognizes Kayla Somoles and Angelica J. Hazel H. Smith Scholarship for Commuter/Off-Campus Students

This scholarship is awarded in memory of Hazel H. Smith, a former BGSU student who was instrumental in the evolution of an area that would be known as the Off-Campus Student Center.  Mrs. Smith, a pioneer in the field of commuter centers became the first full-time administrator of the program in 1967 and served in this capacity until shortly before her death in 1986.  On April 14, 1989, the program was named in her honor.  In 2002, the program moved to its new location in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union and was renamed Off-Campus Student Services. The heart of the services, The Hazel H. Smith Lounge, is now located on the second floor of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
