Today completes our seventh week of classes! While we want to continue to check in with you regarding your experience this fall, in this Friday message, we also wanted to share two important updates related to our COVID-19 planning: flexible grading options and adjustments to the spring semester calendar.
Sep 30, 2020 4:01 PM Alternative Work Considerations
In an effort to address the extraordinary challenges caused by COVID-19, the University introduced a process in June 2020 for considering alternative work arrangements for employees (including graduate assistants) who may be at a higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Consideration was extended to employees who reside in the same household with an individual who may be at a higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

Due to health and safety concerns and the unpredictability of international travel, BGSU is suspending Education Abroad trips scheduled for Spring 2021. I understand this is another disappointing announcement, but the health and safety of our campus community remains our top priority.

As we have previously shared, we are working to safely resume operations of our campuses, and at Bowling Green State University, our students will have the opportunity to help choose how they wish to learn. This fall will feel and look differently, and courses will not just be all online or in-person, but both. Today, in response to student feedback, we are announcing Design My BGSU – an initiative to work with students in selecting between three course formats.

We want to let you know that the reconfiguration of the fall 2020 schedule is near completion. You will be able to view your updated course schedule early next week.

These are challenging times. Every day, we are learning more about this virus. Given the recent health orders and guidance from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, along with our commitment to following the science, we must reschedule our August in-person commencement ceremonies in the best interest of the public health.
Jun 25, 2020 10:00 PM BGSU to offer classes in three delivery modes this fall
Our primary goal is to provide BGSU students with a robust, meaningful, and most importantly, safe experience both inside and outside the classroom in the coming academic year. Adhering to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Ohio Department of Health guidelines requires rethinking the delivery of fall 2020 courses. This message is intended to provide clarity for what students can expect during fall 2020.

Jun 17, 2020 6:05 PM Adjustments to the 2020-2021 academic calendar
Fall semester classes will now start on Wednesday, Aug. 26. To best plan and to lessen the impact COVID-19 may have on our campuses, in-person classes will end on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The last week of classes will be Nov. 30-Dec. 4, 2020, and will be conducted remotely. Final exam week will be Dec. 7-11, 2020, and will also be conducted remotely. In addition, to provide maximized flexibility, we have also canceled Winter Session in 2021. Based upon current planning, classes for spring semester will now begin on Jan. 11, 2021, and end on April 30, 2021. We are planning for the spring semester to be in-person. While there are changes to the academic calendar, previously announced University holidays will continue to be observed.

May 28, 2020 8:29 AM Return to campus updates
I recognize your eagerness to learn more about planning for the fall and resumption of activities later this summer. We are being intentional as we consider a variety of scenarios. Two University-wide planning groups are leading our efforts, focusing on student academic and non-academic experiences and campus safety and operations. BGSU is an important part of our community, and Ben Batey, health commissioner for the Wood County Health Department, is chairing the subcommittee on health protocols. In addition, we are working with our peer Ohio public universities and other higher education institutions across the nation to develop our plans.
