Watson named 2016 gerontology Educator of the Year | Spirituality conference to honor Pargament

WATSON TO RECEIVE 2016 EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD IN GERONTOLOGY

The Ohio Association of Gerontology Education (OAGE) will honor Dr. Wendy Watson as “Educator of the Year” tomorrow (April 15) at its 40th annual conference at Youngstown State University.

Watson, an associate professor of gerontology, is the coordinator of the undergraduate and graduate programs in gerontology at BGSU. She also serves as the primary graduate faculty adviser and provides mentoring and guidance regarding courses, theses, and other graduate–level projects.

According to the association, Watson’s “passion for education, along with the innovative teaching techniques she uses to foster student engagement and motivate students to achieve high academic standards, should be commended.”

NATIONAL SCHOLARS GATHER FOR CONFERENCE IN PARGAMENT’S HONOR

Dr. Kenneth Pargament
Scholars in the field of spirituality will gather on campus April 15 for a conference in celebration of Dr. Kenneth Pargament’s contributions to the discipline.

They will give presentations on “Spirituality and the Deepening of Clinical Research and Practice: An Emerging Multidisciplinary Field” from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 308 Bowen–Thompson Student Union. The event highlights innovative contributions in the areas of spirituality, health and well–being from the perspectives of scholars from a variety of disciplines.

Pargament, professor emeritus of clinical psychology, retired from BGSU last spring. He is well known for his research on spirituality and health. He has been a leading figure in the bio–psycho–socio–spiritual approach to health and well–being. Widely published, his international reputation includes collaborations with researchers, practitioners, students and clergy.

“Stories: What Tales of Our Professional Ancestors Can Teach Us about Student Affairs Today” will be the topic of Dr. Janice Gerda, director of residence life at Case Western University, in the Fayetta M. Paulsen Lecture on Friday (April 15).

“Explore Your Voice. Imagine Where It Will Take You” is the theme of the April 18 World Voice Day celebration.

The Department of Theatre and Film closes its 2015–16 season with “Noises Off,” a comedy by English playwright Michael Frayn.

Tickets are now available for the BGSU Firelands Theatre production of “Meet Me In St. Louis,” onstage April 21–24 at the McBride Auditorium on the Huron campus.
