The Rogers Report

As March comes to an end, our students have returned from spring break and this semester is flying by!

BGSU One Day, our annual day of giving, starts Tuesday, April 2, and I want you to be one of the first to see our video. This is a wonderful opportunity to support our university.

Enjoy some of my favorite stories and highlights from this past month!

Regards,

Rodney K. Rogers, Ph.D. '81

Robotics

Robotics studies equip students for rapidly growing field
Developing relevant and rigorous academic programs ensures our students are prepared to meet today’s workforce demands. To do that, it is critical that we continue to create and enhance programs in the STEM fields. A great example of that is our innovative Mechatronics program. I recently stopped by the Robotics Lab to learn what our students and faculty are working on. Their advances in robots are changing the future!

One Day

Join me in participating in BGSU One Day starting this Tuesday, April 2
Our third annual BGSU One Day begins on Tuesday, April 2! For 36 hours, Falcons will come together for Bowling Green State University. It is you who ensure we continue to change lives for the world. Sandy and I are giving our gift to support student scholarships, and I encourage you to join us in supporting an initiative or area on our campuses that you are passionate about.

Hockey

NCAA Hockey Tournament fan central: tickets, tailgates, watch parties and more
For the first time in 29 years, BGSU hockey is returning to the NCAA Tournament! Following an outstanding 25-10-5 season, we are taking on the defending national champions, the University of Minnesota-Duluth, the same opponent we beat in 1984 NCAA championship! I’m so proud of our hockey program, whose grit is second to none. Looking forward to cheering on the Falcons with you. Ay Ziggy Zoomba!

Falcon Cam

Falcon Cam returns
For the last nine years, a pair of peregrine falcons — our official mascot — have nested in the clock tower of the Wood County Courthouse. Bowling Green State University partners with the Wood County Commissioners to provide a live Falcon Cam so you can watch their activity. Freddie and Frieda are still my favorites, but I see four eggs currently in the nest — our family is expanding!

Chapman Learning Community part of Habitat projects

Chapman Learning Community part of Habitat projects
This year, Bowling Green State University is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build three homes right here in our community. Our Center for Community and Civic Engagement has been collaborating with hundreds of students, faculty and staff in all corners of our campuses to complete the “Build 3 in BG” plan. We’ve involved faculty and their classes and student organizations, plus our alumni and retirees. This type of service shows how our university drives the vitality of our region and creates public good. Our Chapman Learning Community got involved and made a difference during the first build!
