A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fall continues to be an exciting time on campus! Students are more than a month into the semester, and October is always busy with fall activities.

Homecoming
All BGSU alumni and friends are invited to campus for Homecoming on October 16-18. From the parade, the Freddie and Freida 5K, and class reunions, to the college lecture series and Falcon Football, there are opportunities for all members of the Falcon family. View the full list of events!

In the spirit of Homecoming, BGSU has launched a “Battle of the Decades” alumni-giving challenge. This competition has alumni from the 1970s to the 2010s making an impact at BGSU. Learn more and join the challenge now!

At 259 members strong, the Falcon Marching Band is the largest student organization on campus. FMB is under new direction this year, and we look forward to all the great things to come. Welcome to the Falcon family, Dr. Michael King.

Yarger Family
Melanie Yarger and her family were chosen as the 2015 Falcon Family of the Year. Her inspirational story embodies the BGSU spirit, and we are so proud of everything she has accomplished. Read about Melanie’s Falcon experience.

STEM
BGSU hosted STEM in the Park, a daylong event dedicated to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. More than 5,000 people attended, and with the help of more than 20 corporate sponsors, this annual event brings families and community members to campus and showcases opportunities in STEM disciplines.

This month, BGSU celebrated philanthropy and the support that changes the lives of our students. New members were welcomed to The Presidents Club, and the members of the new Carillon Society were recognized for their ongoing commitment to this great University.

Maddi Georgoff
Maddi Georgoff ’15, a Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow, has taken her passion for community service to Toledo Public Schools with an innovative program designed to help parents of K-12 students get involved in their children’s education.

The College of Business Administration is hosting the 2015 Business Analytics Symposium on October 9. Industry experts from across the region will be on campus to discuss best practices in this emerging field. Register today.

BG bracelets
Check out the latest Falcon gear, including new BG bracelets produced by hockey alumnus Steve Brudzewski ’05 and his company, Electric Family, in the BGSU Bookstore, Falcon Team Store and at the Newlove Pro Shop!

Dr. Lawrence Coates, chair of the English department, published two books this fall! Coates, a nationally recognized author, is one of many BGSU faculty who bring their professional expertise to the classroom.

BGSU Football continues to fight hard on the gridiron! The program is 2-0 in competition against Big Ten Conference teams. Check out the upcoming pre-game events and come cheer on your Falcons. Hockey starts competition on Saturday. The U.S. College Hockey Online preseason poll ranks the program No. 16 in the country!

This is truly an exciting time for BGSU. All of us are so very proud. With your support and involvement, there is much more success to come!

Regards,

Mary Ellen Mazey, Ph.D.
