A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Final exams are finished. Students have graduated. Summer orientation has begun. As always, May has been a busy month at BGSU!

President Mazey at commencement
This month, 2,193 students became alumni at our spring commencement ceremonies. Throughout that weekend, students shared their favorite “Falcon Moments” with us. Four outstanding alumni speakers, Dr. Thomas Snitch ’75 ’15 (Hon.), Seshadri Srinivasan Tangutur ’87, Susan Finn ’66 and Judy Sommers ’68 ’95, shared valuable advice with the graduates. All are great examples of the success you can achieve with a BGSU degree.

Dr. Brad Colwell, dean of the College of Education and Human Development, was recently recognized by Mometrix, a prominent test preparation company. Mometrix ranked Colwell No. 23 on its list of the most influential education deans in the nation. Such great news for BGSU!

Greek housing rendering
The Greek housing groundbreaking was a special moment for the Falcon family. Construction is underway, and you can view the progress on the construction camera. Our fraternity and sorority community is a vibrant part of campus life, and I’m looking forward to opening these facilities in fall 2016!

Firelands campus
Starting in August, BGSU Firelands will begin its yearlong 50th anniversary celebration, showcasing the college’s accomplishments and history. Join us in commemorating 50 years of success.

This summer, BGSU will be hosting events from coast to coast. I hope you can attend. From “Regional Network” events to student send-offs and several major league baseball games, there are a variety of ways to stay connected with BGSU. Details and event registration are available on the alumni website.

BGSU recently launched “Falcon Funded,” a crowdfunding platform to engage online supporters. "Falcon Funded" projects highlight examples of the great work happening at this University.

This month, Athletics launched its first “Coaches Caravan.” Director of Athletics Chris Kingston, five coaches and staff visited four cities in four days. Planning is already underway for the trip in summer 2016! View a recap of the week’s activities.

BGSU Football
Football season is just months away, and the University is hosting a Sept. 4-6 excursion to our game against the University of Tennessee. The game will be played at LP Field, home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. Join us for an exciting weekend filled with BGSU football and everything that Nashville has to offer! Reserve your spot today.

Terry Bork
Former Falcon baseball player Terry Bork ’70 recently visited campus during a training exercise while preparing for the 878-mile “Race Across the West” in June. This test of endurance will benefit BG’s “Knock it out of the Park” campaign for the Steller Field renovation project. Terry is inspiring!

Social media provides accessibility to the Falcon family. Follow me on Twitter, like my page on Facebook, and connect with me on LinkedIn – I want to stay in touch with you between these monthly updates.

Regards,

Mary Ellen Mazey, Ph.D.
