This week's essential COVID-19 information from BGSU Chief Health Officer Ben Batey

We are now more than a month into the spring semester and continue to see a progressive decrease in COVID-19 cases in our campus community, as outlined in this email and on the Forward Falcons website. We thank our students, faculty and staff for wearing a face covering, keeping a small social circle, staying home when they are feeling ill and getting tested if they are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19. These individual actions are making a difference in keeping our campuses safe and healthy.
Wellness Days this Thursday, Friday
Almost one year ago, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine issued a state of emergency to slow the spread of COVID-19. We have learned so much this year, and we appreciate all of the ways our campus community has demonstrated flexibility and compassion throughout the pandemic. We know this year has presented challenges for each of us, and we encourage you to prioritize your health and well-being.
Later this week, we will hold our first two Wellness Days on Thursday, Feb. 18, and Friday, Feb. 19. Students will not have classes these days, and faculty will will not schedule any assignments, project deadlines or exams. Instead, there will be opportunities to participate in a variety of activities focused on physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. We encourage you to explore the Wellness Days activities and use the time to relax, unwind and refocus.
Free COVID-19 testing
Free, on-demand COVID-19 testing is available in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union for students, faculty and staff. We will also continue our randomized surveillance testing program to monitor the positivity rate on campus. Thank you for getting tested through this program
Vaccine Update
Vaccine distribution is increasing daily, and we are working with our partners in public health to support vaccination efforts. The latest information is available about vaccines at Wood County Health Department and Erie County Health Department.
Thank you for all you are doing to keep our campuses safe and healthy.
Be well,

BGSU COVID-19 Surveillance Testing Program
BGSU is implementing a program of randomized surveillance testing that will help the University and our community further monitor and respond to the prevalence of COVID-19. This ongoing program will use proportional stratified random sampling to give us a more representative picture of the presence of COVID-19 on our campus. Students randomly selected each week will be notified via their BGSU email and text message to schedule a date and time, along with instructions for next steps.

Latest Vaccine Information
COVID-19 vaccines continue to be a scarce resource across the United States. Wood County Health Department and its partners are working together to ensure that all people who are currently eligible have opportunities to be vaccinated. Wood County has distributed 100 percent of the doses it’s received within one week, each week since Ohio’s Phase 1B began.
As information becomes available about the next phases, the Wood County Health Department will share details with all local news media contacts, as well as BGSU. Visit the Wood County Health Department vaccine page for more information and further details about each phase.

Ohio Department of Health Resources
As vaccination efforts increase, the Ohio Department of Health has issued new guidance that individuals who have been fully vaccinated (more than two weeks after second dose in a two-dose series, or more than two weeks following dose in single-dose vaccine) do not need to quarantine or isolate after being exposed to COVID-19. The latest information is available at the Ohio Department of Health website.

Positive Cases of COVID-19 Reported to BGSU
Includes positive COVID-19 cases reported to BGSU from health departments, medical providers, testing and self-report. Not all cases are residing in Bowling Green or Wood County and this includes cases reported at BGSU Firelands.
