This week's essential COVID-19 information from BGSU Chief Health Officer Ben Batey

Watch BGSU Chief Health Officer Ben Batey's February 9 Video Update
Over the last several weeks, COVID-19 cases have progressively decreased in our campus community. This is a reflection of our students, faculty and staff who continue to do their part to lower their risk level, and we thank you for your commitment to keeping our campuses safe and healthy. This week’s numbers show another drop in cases, as compared to the prior week, outlined in this email and on the Forward Falcons website.
Because of the lowered cases, we were able to reinstate the COVID-19 Guest Policy, just as we did in the fall. On-campus residents are now permitted a maximum of one guest inside their residence hall room. We will continue to work with our partners in public health to monitor case trends to inform future decision-making throughout the spring semester, prioritizing your health and safety while keeping your BGSU experience memorable and fun.
Next week, we will have our first two Wellness Days on Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19. Students will not have classes these days, but instead will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities focused on physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. We encourage you to explore the Wellness Days activities and use the time to relax, unwind and refocus.
Free, on-demand COVID-19 testing is available in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union for students, faculty and staff, and we encourage you to take advantage of this fast, convenient testing. We will also continue our randomized surveillance testing program to help us assess the positivity rate on campus. We are especially appreciative of the students who have been tested through this program.
Throughout the global pandemic, new information and research becomes available daily. There is reason for hope as cases decline, more vaccines arrive and more people get vaccinated. Because of your individual actions, widely available testing, and quarantine and isolation compliance, we are at a good place with being able to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Thank you for your flexibility, compassion and commitment as we work together to keep our campuses safe and healthy.
Be well,

Latest Vaccine Information
COVID-19 vaccines continue to be a scarce resource across the United States, and it will take time to provide vaccines to everyone who wants to receive them. Starting this week, people 65 and older become eligible.
As information becomes available about the next phases, the Wood County Health Department will share details with all local news media contacts, as well as BGSU. Visit the Wood County Health Department vaccine page for more information and further details about each phase.

Volunteer to help with vaccine distribution
BGSU has offered to support large-scale vaccination efforts, and there is a way you, too, can help by volunteering with the Wood County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), a national network of volunteers with medical and non-medical backgrounds. As vaccine supplies increase, MRC volunteers will play a critical role in local vaccination clinics. Volunteer today

BGSU student wins holiday contest
There was nothing traditional about Madison May’s holiday this year, and that earned her $1,250 in cash. The Bowling Green State University student took top prize in the Wood County Health Department’s holiday contest for her video showing how her Erie, Pennsylvania family bucked holiday traditions during the pandemic to stay safe. Congratulations, Madison!
