A Message From the Dean
Welcome to the summer 2017 edition of the University Libraries newsletter. This issue is a testimony to the critical role the Libraries play in supporting the teaching, learning and research needs of the University. I am so appreciative of the dedicated faculty and staff who develop and implement effective programs that enhance the learning experience for our students.

Over that past 50 years, the Wm. T. Jerome Library has evolved into a modern learning facility – “the academic heart of the campus,” holding 7 million items and providing access to unending amounts of electronic information and academic success initiatives. In celebration of our 50th anniversary this year, we will host several commemorative events. This fall, our "Ordinary People, Extraordinary Stories" series will feature astronaut and author Mark Kelly. This free community event will add richness to the learning experiences of our students and serve as a meaningful community engagement activity. More details about this event are included in the newsletter. In addition, other events celebrating the 50th anniversary will be announced soon. Keep an eye on our website for additional details.

I am proud to announce that one of our long-standing Leadership Council members, Jon Iten '78, was selected as a recipient of the 2017 College Alumni Awards. He has served on BGSU’s University Libraries Leadership Council since 2005 and is a dedicated supporter of libraries.

I also am excited to announce that construction has begun on the new Collab Lab located on the first floor of the Library. This hands-on, creative space for students, faculty, staff and community members to engage in collaborative work will debut this fall. Be sure to read more about the Collab Lab's exciting goals, technology and innovative features in the article featured in this edition.

I thank each of you who continue to generously support the University Libraries. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about the University Libraries' collections, programs and services.

Regards,

Sara A. Bushong
